01.23.23 Steele School PTO Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 5:38 pm. The attendees were Pam Gaither, Bill Gaither, Ashley Shinn, Tifani Miller, Kelly Sturgis, Dylana Carlson, Elizabeth Culbertson, Laci Washabaugh, Kristen Lingafelter and Keri Coate,
The Principals report was given by Mrs. Coate. She mentioned there are some staffing changes; Mrs Scherpe has accepted a new position at the High School as their outreach leader. Mrs. Mowen, Mrs. Hickey and Mrs. Coate are all pitching in to absorb her duties until the district can find a suitable replacement. There is a library position available and they have had several applicants for the position. Mrs. Coate also mentioned they recently had a great staff meeting with plenty of complimentary words among the staff members as well as several great ideas for this semester.
Mrs Coate also mentioned she knew of a popcorn machine that is available for purchase. It was brought up that those machines can be hard to clean and can burn popcorn easily. Ashley mentioned she used a popcorn machine many times during football games and has become quite the pro. At this time, the PTO will pass on the opportunity as it is almost easier to buy the large bags of popcorn from an outside source.
The next topic was reviewing the status of each event for the remainder of the year.
Bingo Night will be held on February 2nd. Ashley will create a sign up genius for various volunteers needed for the night. This will be posted on the FB PTO page. Kristen mentioned she needed the auction items logged by Friday the 27th to be able to prepare the sheets for the silent auction. Sheets will also be prepared to hand out to the attendees listing all of the items available for bidding. It was also suggested to scroll through the items using a projector during games. The petty cash box has been set up, the card are cut and the beans will be purchased when the concession items are purchased at Sams. A bottle of water and goldfish will be provided to students and the student council will be selling candy at the concession stand. The proceeds will be split between student council and PTO.
Pizza Ranch fundraiser will be held on March 6th Ashley will create a sign up genius for volunteers. All cash tips and 7% of sales will be provided to Steel PTO for the night.
Movie Night to be held on March 30th still needs approval for sale of items and a PO will need to be entered to purchase water and popcorn.

Elizabeth C. mentioned there is an abundance of candy that FISH is able to donate to Steele to utilize as we choose during any of the events.
Carnival is scheduled to be held on May 18th. A PO will needs to be submitted to purchase pizza. Mrs Coate was able to book the same company from 2022 at a rate of $715.00 for the night. This is less than last year and more games will be available. Dylana mentioned to either use more volunteers for face painting as the lines last year were so long for only one painter. Temporary tattoos were suggested as an alternative to face painting.
Pam asked if anyone would be interested in becoming the PTO president for the rest of the school year. Ashley said she would take on the duties of the president if someone would be willing to handle the social aspect of the position. Mrs. Coate suggested it may be easier to attract more parents if they were only in charge of certain events and not required to be involved for the whole year. Laci suggested to change the day of PTO to possibly help.
The treasurer’s report was given by Pam. The beginning balance was $1,157.94. The ending balance as of 1/23/2023 is $669.17.
The next Book Fair will be held in May. Ashley mentioned she would continue to use teachers to run the book fair as it has been a smooth transition from PTO volunteers and the teachers are eligible for books for their classroom if they volunteer.
Meeting adjourned at 6:32 pm. The next meeting will be held at 5:30 pm on Monday, February 27, 2023.
