September 2021
WOW... September is here already! The first two weeks of school have gone by so quickly and the students have been learning so much in the short time they have been in their classrooms.
Your child is using CANVAS as their Learning Management System in the classroom. CANVAS is a great way to keep students, teachers, and families connected in terms of classroom expectations and assignments. Please ask your child about CANVAS and see if they can show you how to log into their classroom page. Next, see if they can teach you how to get to their ENCORE Canvas Page. Finally -- Sign up to be a Parent Observer on their page. See the links below for directions. Visiting your child's CANVAS page will help you to stay informed with what your child is learning each week in the classroom.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- We will begin to record Tardies and Early Checkouts beginning Tuesday, September 7th. If your child arrives after 8:13 in the morning a tardy will be recorded. If you sign your student out before the end of the day an early check out will be recorded. When you accumulate a total of 5 tardies or checkouts that will equal one absence. Please be sure your child arrives to school on time each day and stays at school until the end of the day. In the case that you have to arrive late or leave early, please provide a doctors's note.
- If you are picking students up early from school, you must do so before 2:30pm. In order to keep all students safe, we cannot allow pick up after that time due to dismissal.
- Students should bring all materials with them to school each day. We want to eliminate the cross contamination of materials so students should be the only ones touching their materials. Items such as lunches and water bottles cannot be delivered to students after the school day has started. We want to eliminate the opportunity of cross contamination and also protect instructional time. Please know that Universal Free Lunch is provided to all students each day. Safety is our number one priority.
Health and Safety Reminders:
- All board members, visitors to school buildings, staff, and children in grades PreK-12 shall wear masks indoors, including school and activity buses, unless actively eating
- Children should maintain 3 feet social distancing to the fullest extent possible
- Children will be allowed mask breaks throughout the day
- A medical exemption may be applied for due to an issue that is exacerbated by COVID-19

Coming Soon to WHES...
One School, One Book
During the month of September, Weddington Hills will support school wide literacy through our One School, One Book program. Wildcats will listen to the read aloud of Donavan's Word Jar by Monalisa Degross and participate in activities that complement the text. The main character, Donavan, has an interesting hobby. He collects all sort of words. After listening to the book, Wildcats will begin collecting their own words with class and individual Word Walls. We are looking forward to this exciting literary event!
