Canned Food Drive - November 1-18
Communities in Schools Office is hosting a canned food drive to benefit Manna Storehouse. Please bring canned foods or non-perishable items to the Communities in Schools Office (G219). All donations will be given to Manna Storehouse to be given to families in need especially during this holiday season. Come inside the classroom when you drop off your donation and enter your name for a drawing for a gift card. Star-Telegram's DFW Offensive Player of the Week
Varsity QB Lane Gilley was nominated for the Offensive Player of the Week for the north Texas area last week. Gilley competed for the honor with 19 other nominees. It is believed he came in 2nd place. Gilley had 5 TDs (2 passing TDs, 2 rushing TDs, and 1 reception TD). Thanks to Roo Nation for going online and voting. Congratulations, Lane!

Gabbie Huggins 10/8
Gabbie excels in athletics and academics. She’s participated and lettered as a member of the Lady Roos varsity volleyball team for the past three years. And this will be her second year on the Lady Roos varsity soccer team. She’s earned Academic All District in both sports every year and earned All-District second team in soccer in 2016.
Gabbie is enrolled in AP and pre AP classes and currently ranks in the top 1% of her class. She’s president of the Junior Class.
Jacob Huffman 10/18
Jacob has played on the Varsity Basketball team since the end of his sophomore year. He has run Cross County and lettered the past three years. On the Track & Field team, he pole vaults and has competed in various running events (400, 600, & 1600). He finished in the top 4 vaulters in the District meet which has qualified him to compete in Area for the past three years, and Regional competition his Junior year. Jacob is a member of the National Honor Society and Roo Crew.

Mock Presidential Election!
We are hosting a mock presidential election Oct. 31 – Nov. 4. Students will vote during their social studies classes. The results will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 9, the day after the General Election.

Seniors: Be sure to check out the new scholarship website – E-Scholarships USA. Go to www.collegeguidanceconsultants.com User name: weatherford, Password: weatherford
Sophomores and Juniors: The Project Opportunity Scholarship is available for WHS students with financial need who are planning to attend Weatherford College. The scholarship provides up to $5,000 for tuition, books, and supplies for two years and is made available by the Project Opportunity Foundation. Students must be sophomores or junior to apply and the deadline for juniors to turn in their application is December 1, 2016. Applications are available in the Counseling Center.
Featured Available Scholarships
Entrepreneur Scholarship: If you have an established business and an entrepreneurial spirit, you may be eligible for scholarships ranging from $2,000 - $15,000. Scholarships are based on ACT/SAT scores, class rank, and GPA. Additional information is available at www.NFIB.com/YEA. Applications are accepted between October 1, 2016 and December 18, 2016.
Anne Ford Scholarship: The National Center for Learning Disabilities will award a $10,000 scholarship to a student who has a documented Learning Disability and is planning to obtain a Bachelor’s degree. Students need to have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate financial need, and show that they have participated in school and community activities. The deadline to apply is November 13, 2016 and applications are available online at www.ncld.org/scholarships.
Ronald McDonald House Charities U.S. Scholarship Program: Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to applicants who show financial need, community involvement, essay content, and academic achievements. The deadline for the application is January 18, 2017. Go to www.rmhc.org to apply online.
