Teacher Feature 🎨
Today we're featuring the radiant RaeAnn Woodcock, the creative force behind our middle and high school art programs here at Hemlock Public School District for 17 years.
We wanted you to get to know Mrs. Woodcock a little better, so here are some fun facts about her:
• The Disney character she relates to the most is Vanellope from Wreck it Ralph (or at least this is what her students tell her), because she's always running around doing 12 things at once.
• What would her students be surprised to find out about her? She used to play Women's Hockey, and she performed with her All Star Pompon Team at the Olympic games in Atlanta, Georgia.
• A quirky talent she has? Not only does she carve snow in the winter...she carves sand in the summer.
• Her nickname as a child was "Rae Rae" and she wanted to be a zoologist.
• Something she's super proud of this year was having 3 teams - and a total of 24 current and former Hemlock High School Snow carvers - at Snowfest this year.
We’re so thrilled to have you in our Huskie Pack, Mrs. Woodcock!

Food Service🍎
We are thrilled to announce that thanks to the Michigan School Meals Program, EVERY child at Hemlock Public School District, pre-K through 12th grade, will now be able to enjoy a delicious and nutritious breakfast and lunch for FREE!
Not only will this amazing program lighten the load on your wallet (we all know kids can eat their way through a pantry), but it'll save you precious time in the morning.
Now, here's the nitty-gritty: Although the meals are free, we do need all our parents to fill out the new free/reduced lunch application. This data is super important as it helps secure state and federal funding for this fantastic initiative.
Here's to full bellies, vibrant minds, and the #huskietastic school year ahead!

JV Boys Basketball 2/12
On Monday, the JV Huskies were defeated by the Swan Valley Vikings by a final score of 38 to 21. After starting the game down 11 to 0, the Huskies tightened up, and cut the score to a one point deficit at halftime, trailing 19 to 18. The comeback was started with excellent effort and energy, making tough plays all over the place. However, after the comeback, Hemlock ran out of steam and could not seem to get shots to fall in the second half. Too many turnovers allowed Swan Valley to get back in front. The defensive effort was stellar once again, but it was not enough to secure the comeback victory. Hemlock was led on the defensive front by solid play from Steven Katzenberger, Will Salowitz, and Blake Lepla. LJ Hartman added 7 points, Wyatt Launstein 6, and Brennan Meyer 5 points.

The 43 Points scored by Carter Gensch yesterday is most likely a school record. Some stats from former coaches are not well documented, but no one has scored more in a single game in the last 23 years in which Coach Bauer has been the coach. Congratulations Carter for that accomplishment!

Nurse Becky's Huskie Health 👩⚕️
February is heart awareness month. Football should remind us of heart health. Why you ask? Remember Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin? On January 2, 2023, the world watched as Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on live TV. The athletic trainer jumped into action and started CPR. It is because of his quick actions and early defibrillation that Damar is still with us today. Now his life mission is for everyone to learn hands-only CPR. Click on this link to read an article on the positive ripple effect that has resulted from this. According to the CDC, "More than 356,000 people have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the United States every year,1 and about 60% to 80% of them die before reaching the hospital". Studies show early CPR + defibrillation within 3-5 minutes of collapse can increase survival by 49-75%. WOW! Sounds like a great reason to learn Hands-Only CPR. Check out this 1-minute video and share it with someone you love.
