Waikīkī School Parent Bulletin - April 22, 2022
Message from VP Mahoney re: Summer Learning Hub and After School Pickup
1) Summer Learning Hub:
Families of students who were recommended for our 2022 Summer Learning Hub have received email notification AND their child(ren) went home with registration packets on Wednesday (4/20/22). These are due by Friday, April 29, 2022 *no late forms will be accepted.
Families of students who were recommended but are on the Waitlist have received email notification. If spots open up for these waitlisted students, families will be notified by May 5, 2022.
While we wish we could take all of our mindful students, we can only take based on the number of teachers we have etc.
2) After School Pick-Up Procedures:
We have successfully made it through the first week of new changes to our afternoon pick-up procedures. In case you missed the parent bulletin that outlined in detail this change, you can reference it HERE. Also you can reference the VIDEO that was shared about these changes as well HERE.
Change is never easy, but we are in the works of bringing normal back to Waikiki School and one of those ways is through our pick-up procedures. The NORMAL school day ENDS at 2:15pm (M, Tu, Th, F) and 1:30pm (Wed.) for 1st - 5th grades AND 1:55pm (M, Tu, Th, F) and 1:10pm (Wed) for Kinder. With getting back to normal this includes students NOT being released early from class and instead they will be released at the end of the school day when the bell rings. This might change families plans.. Please plan accordingly, coming early is not always the best, as we will be doing airport style in our front lot, as we cannot have the traffic backing up onto Leahi Avenue. If your child is NOT out when you come through the line, you will be asked to loop back around. Keep in mind if you have multiple children to pick up, that it may make more sense to give them more time and arrive slightly later.
For A+ families, coming to pick up your child during the 2:15-2:45 pm window is also not recommended, as parking on campus is not available.
*It is important for families to talk with their children to remind them to come straight down to pick-up when the bell rings. It takes the average 1st/2nd grader 2-3 minutes to make their way down to the front pick-up. ***Remember parents can now come onto campus (and are encouraged to) 5 minutes before the end of day to meet their child(ren), parents just need to park off campus.
A+ Corner News
Aloha Waikiki School Parents,
I would like to share how thankful I am to all our A+ parents for being so supportive and most of all patient with me and our awesome staff. Although it's still a struggle with hiring responsible adults, we are able to continue our A+ program for next school year 2022/2023 with my returning staff and hoping to hire a few more staff members over the summer so that we will be able to accept more students if need to in August 2022 when we return back to school. As you all know that this is a Latch Key program meaning BOTH parents have to be working during the after school hours. A+ Registration 2022/2023 will start April 25, 2022 Monday to Friday May 13 2022 at 4:00pm You may pick up a hard copy here at A+. I will not be doing online registration this year.
**** DO NOT DROP OFF APPLICATIONS TO THE OFFICE IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED***.
*** ALL APPLICATIONS ARE TO BE DROPPED OFF AT A+ during A+ hours from 2:30 to 4:00pm. IT WILL BE TIME STAMPED UPON RECEIVING so that all may be reviewed accordingly. PLEASE have the application completed properly it will delay the process of your application. Space is still limited.. Thank you for your patience. Looking forward to next year!

COVID-19 self-test kits
The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education is collaborating with the state Department of Health to distribute COVID-19 self-tests to detect and minimize COVID-19 spread in our school communities. COVID-19 self-tests, also called “home tests” or “over the counter tests,” provide results in a few minutes. Self-tests do not require a prescription and are available in pharmacies, retail stores and online.
Key times to use a COVID-19 self-test include the following:
Before attending a large gathering or event;
After close contact or potential exposure to COVID-19;
After traveling; and/or
If you have any COVID-19 symptoms.
All public school students and school staff employees are eligible to receive two free COVID-19 self-tests. The Flowflex COVID-19 Antigen Home Test being distributed at schools are appropriate for use with anyone ages 2 and older. Learn more about the FlowFlex self-test at fda.gov/media/152699/download.
There is no obligation to accept this resource and individuals may opt out by completing and returning the attached form with this link to the school’s administration office by Wednesday, April 27, 2022.
Our school will distribute the COVID-19 self-tests prior to the end of the school year.
Keeping our schools safe is a collective effort and we thank you for your continued cooperation and support. If you have any questions about COVID-19 tests, please call the state’s COVID-19 Hotline at (808) 586-8332.
