Superintendent Communication

Dear NSSEO Families,

We have made it to February and though there have been a few ‘dicey’ days weather wise-we are certainly enjoying the beautiful weather this week. We certainly have much to celebrate and lots of activities that will keep our students involved in school in spite of it being winter.

We hope families will join us at Sunrise Lake, NSSEO’s Outdoor Education Center in Bartlett, Illinois, for our “9th Annual Winter Wonderland’, this Saturday from 11am to 3pm and enjoy a variety of activities indoors and out. Even though there won’t be snow, student and staff families are sure to have a wonderful time enjoying nature, crafts, story time, snacks, animals, and interacting with our amazing Sunrise Lake teaching staff. Sunrise Lake is located at 401 S Illinois Rte 59, Bartlett, IL 60103. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather.

At this month’s NSSEO Governing Board meeting, we are looking forward to celebrating Miner School and two of their students, Mildred Perez and Dominic Melendez as NSSEO's Shining Stars. Details will be provided in the February Governing Board Briefs communication. Congratulations Mildred and Dominic! At the Governing Board meeting, we will also be sharing that Extended School Year (ESY) is anticipated to start on June 10th and will convene Monday thru Friday through June 28th, with the exception of June 19th, in recognition of Juneteenth. We are currently referencing the start date of June 10th as anticipated as in the event we have ‘more’ than two more emergency days, we may have to make adjustments.

- Kirk School is playing in a tournament with Hoffman, Hersey, and Palatine at Hoffman Estates High School. Kirk's first game is at 7pm and if they win they play again right after.
