Welcome to Kindergarten! We are so excited to learn with our new friends this year! Kindergarten is such a special year and it is our commitment to make this year the BEST it can be for both you and your child! Everything you need to know for life begins here and we're honored to be a part of it with you and your child!

My name is Alicia Stone and I am so excited to work with you and your child this year! I am a former Wilkes Central High School Eagle and graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne University in 2004 with a degree in K-6 Elementary Education and a Minor in Music. I have taught my favorite grade (Kindergarten) for 20 years and I truly believe...Everything you need to know for life begins in Kindergarten! I became a teacher because I had inspiring teachers as a child and want to inspire others as well. Teaching is my calling and I love learning with my students! When I'm not teaching and learning in the classroom, I enjoy being active in my church, playing the piano and anything that involves music and watching my sons play baseball and golf!

I am blessed to have an amazing team of helpers..Mrs. O'Dell (our teaching assistant) and Maw Maw Rose (our Foster Grandparent)!

Together, we ensure that your child will be well-loved, nurtured, educated, and challenged to work at their best potential.

**Please remember Kindergarten will begin on a staggered schedule. Please see calendar below to know which day your child will attend on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Everyone will attend Thursday and Friday and beyond.

**Please make sure you have signed up for the free Class Dojo app and have connected! This is how we will mostly communicate this year!

**Please send in all needed forms from our "Meet and Greet Session". You may return all forms in the envelope and put in your child's green folder.

**Don't forget to send a healthy snack and water bottle each day with your child.

**Please make sure we know how your child will go home each day. If you have changes in transportation, please call the office and send me a Dojo message.

Your child may purchase ice cream on Fridays during lunch in the school cafeteria. Please send $1.25 in a labeled envelope with your child's name on it and please write "ice-cream" on it. Please put the envelope/money in your child's green folder. We won't see it if it's in their book-bag. Thanks so much!

Reading

**Don't forget to have your child read their baggie book at least 3 times with/to you. Don't forget to sign the reading log each night. No books will be sent home on Fridays.

**Help your child read/recognize our 5 Weekly High Frequency Words. We will send home 5 words each week for recognition only. Students will need to practice recognizing/reading their Weekly Words each night. High-Frequency word recognition is very important-90% of texts students read are these "high-frequency words". We will have a recognition "test" on Fridays to check their progress.
