MESSAGE FROM ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MR. WILLIAMS
REASONS TO BRAG ABOUT YOUR SCHOOL
In the midst of a pandemic there is so much we as a Pontiac Family are indeed grateful for and readily celebrate!
Did you know that our very own Master Deputy Proctor was chosen as the 2020 Special Services Deputy of the Year for Richland County!
Our community action team recognized some of our most valuable parents nominated by teachers with an awesome yard sign!
School Counselor Julie Whitney successfully completed National Board Certification!
Shout out to our principal, Dr. Barber for being a model to other administrators in the district for preparing our teachers to speak about assessment data with ease!
Congratulations to music teacher, Lisa Rayner, for being chosen as one of TEN Columbia-based Concert Truck Community Heroes!
Our PTO has worked quietly behind the scenes fundraising without selling any chocolate or wrapping paper! Way to go, PTO for recognizing the times we are in and adjusting!
Though we are not all together in the building, all students still remain connected as a school family rallying around the same school wide W.I.G. (Wildly Important Goal). Our goal this year is centered around student work completion. The percentage of work completion is going up!
Pontiac Elementary is celebrating its 30th year of existence!! Stay tuned for more details for how we will be celebrating.
Truly, we have much to brag about, and I look forward to having more reasons to brag as the year progresses! Before I close, I want to remind you that next month is a month reserved to celebrate and honor the achievements and lives of so many African Americans past and present. Our teachers and students will be celebrating and conducting research about African Americans all month long. We are looking forward to seeing the finished products.
Principals with Heart Challenge
Did you know that HEART DISEASE is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.
Did you know that 1 IN 4 deaths are related to heart disease?
Baron Davis, Richland Two Superintendent, has charged all principals in leading this important cause during the month of February.
Myself along with my co-captain and Pontiac’s PE teacher, Travis Palmer, have planned a month filled with fun fitness challenges for your child!
Please join our American Heart team by visiting THIS LINK and registering for our Pontiac school team!
Plan ahead! On February 5 we would like all of our staff and students to wear RED and donate $1 to our American Health Association Pontiac team!
Each week during the month of February we would like to share a story with our school family about how the American Heart Association has impacted a member of Pontiac. Look for a very special story in next week’s newsletter from someone very near and dear to the Pontiac family.
Do you have a child at Pontiac that had a congenital heart defect at birth? Would you like to share your child’s story? Please contact me at kbarber@richland2.org! We’d love to celebrate your child and his/her healthy heart!
Thank you, Team Pontiac, for supporting this very worthwhile cause!
PICTURE DAY
If your student is a face to face learner, your child's CONTACTLESS photo will be taken on February 12 before students are dismissed at 11:30am.
If your student is a virtual learner and you would like your child's CONTACTLESS photo taken, please schedule a photograph time using the link. These appointments will be held between 1pm and 3pm on February 12.
Thank you for your flexibility as we have had to reschedule these photos multiple times this year.
Health Room: IMPORTANT REMINDER
