Different Types of Financial Aid
Financial aid can come from federal, state, school, and private sources to help you pay for college or career school.
Federal Aid
Federal Student Aid offers three types of financial aid.
- Grants: Financial aid that generally doesn’t have to be repaid.
- Loans: Borrowed money for college or career school; your loans must be repaid with interest.
- Work-Study: A federal work program through which undergraduates and graduate students at participating schools earn money to help pay for school.
What Happens After I submit my FAFSA?
Once your application is processed, you will receive a copy of your FAFSA Submission Summary.
The Student Aid Index (SAI) is the eligibility index number that your college’s or career school’s financial aid office uses to determine how much federal aid you’re eligible to receive.
