Principal's Desk
Dear Parents,
I am so glad to be back in the swing of things. Our third quarter has just begun and we are back in full swing. It's so fun to see how much all of our students have grown since the beginning of the year. Report cards will be coming home January 7. Our winter NWEA reports will be sent home shortly.
This next part is a repeat from the December newsletter, but it bears reminding because several of our students this week did not have their winter coats etc. and we do worry when we go out and our students are not dressed for the weather.
Winter weather is upon us. Please make sure your children are dressed for the weather. We go out for recess whenever the weather allows. Let us know if we can help with hats, gloves, etc.

We have been really fortunate to keep mostly COVID free but we cannot let our guard down yet. Please continue your wellness checks at home. If you think you or your child has been a direct contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID we need a copy of their test results for the State reports we have to send in. Also, if our child is absent for any reason please call in each day to keep us updated.
Our only spring fund raiser is about to begin. We will be selling World's Finest Candy Bars. Information will be coming home soon. But please keep in mind if you sign up to sell candy bars we CANNOT take back unsold candy bars. You are responsible for the entire box of candy bars. This is a greet fundraiser for our PTO to carryout their projects in support of our students and teachers.
Sincerely,
Mrs. McCarty, Principal

Ms. Pfeiffer's Fourth Grade News
Welcome back and Happy New Year. I hope everyone had a wonderful break. I hope students are ready to FLY into 2022 as they continue to display great behavior by following classroom and school procedures, respecting others and doing their personal best.
In reading our students continue to learn and practice many skills such as finding text evidence, and responding to text based questions using R.A.C.E. Students are able to find the main idea and detail of a text as well as many other reading skills. We also learned to identify all 5 text structures authors use to write as well as how to use text features to help deepen and strengthen our understanding of what we are reading.
In 2021 students wrote a variety of narratives, informative and opinion essays. Students will continue to read from a text and from the text form an essay based on evidence and support from the text.
In math we continuing to sharpen our multiplication and division skills as well as develop a good understanding of fractions in the unit ahead of us. We have been identifying equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, and looking forward to adding and subtracting fractions. We have used a variety of critical thinking games to challenge ourselves with problem solving skills.
In social studies we learned of Indiana’s 3 regions which included the demographics and location of each region and major characteristics. We learned many interesting facts of the first people to arrive in what is now Indiana. In science students have explored many forms of energy and how to use energy effectively.
I wish you all good health and happiness, and I am excited in moving forward into the year 2022.
