Trussville Daybreak Rotary Club Announces Student and Teacher of the Month!

TRUSSVILLE, AL – The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club has named a student of the month for January from Hewitt-Trussville High School (HTHS). The Don Haisten Student of the Month is Anna Virginia Fagan. Anna Virginia is involved in varsity volleyball, varsity tennis, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Spanish Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Service Association, Key Club, Peer Partners, Heritage Panel, and Wellness Club, and is an HTHS ambassador. She is captain of the varsity volleyball and was a 2017 Principal’s Choice recipient.
Anna Virginia selected Sara Barriault, her pre-AP pre-calculus teacher, as the Teacher of the Month. Anna Virginia said, “Mrs. Barriault has always made herself available when I need any extra assistance. She also created a healthy, positive environment for me to learn the material she is teaching.”

HTMS had the highest number of students chosen from schools in the metro Birmingham area! This is the second year in a row to achieve this!
This is a record number of students chosen from HTMS breaking the record of 23 chosen in 2014. Here is some interesting data from the past ten years (see picture below). Lots of growth!
What is really cool about this group of students is that they all are very involved at our school: honor roll students, soccer players, dance team members, basketball players, choir members, theatre students, wrestling team members, track/cross country, scholars bowl, girls in engineering, etc.

Birmingham Museum of Art visits Paine Elementary School's 5th Grade Students
Birmingham Museum of Art visited Paine Elementary School as a part of their “Culture Case Race”. Birmingham Museum of Art visited 56 schools this week to share with classes a suitcase filled with items from different cultures around the world. Our Paine students were able to see the African Culture Case, which included handmade items from mostly West Africa.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
In an effort to address the differentiated instruction needs of Trussville students, a universal screening will be administered to all second graders. The results will be shared with parents and educators. The screening process will take place February 5-16, 2018, in the regular classroom and will be administered by their homeroom teacher.

The Athletic Program, Staff, and Faculty at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School are proud to announce the arrival of our Thirteenth Annual Charity Basketball Game. The event is a school wide activity that includes all of our basketball teams, cheerleaders, dance team, and athletes from other sports, as well as our band, choir and ambassadors.
Since the 2005-06 school year, at the end of basketball season, HTMS has sponsored a charity event to raise money for a worthy cause. This year’s charity is Designs for Hope.
Designs for Hope is a non-profit that exists to provide sustainable energy, clean water, and other innovative designs in developing countries.
