Bencik's Buzz
Hometown Families:
What a week to celebrate!! Our student performances this past week were a great example hard work and a culmination of the year growing in learning. If you missed the spring concert performed by our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and the Hometown Chorus, please click here to watch the entire show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Dtk49WrLD8&t=2s
Bike Parade
There will be one more bike parade on Sunday, May 28th. Mayor Finnegan had a great time with the big crowd that came out last weekend. Let's give him a bigger treat with an even bigger crowd! There is also free ice cream at the end of the parade! Please meet in the Mosque parking lot at 6pm.
The Wizard of Oz
Imagine you are swept away to the land of Oz only to be met by a cowardly lion, a tin man, a scarecrow and of course a witch or two. On May 19, Hometown's gym was transformed into the land of Oz. This adorable play is based upon the timeless and exciting L. Frank Baum classic adventure story of young Dorothy, who finds herself lost in the strange and magical Land of Oz.
This was the 19th production of this play performed annually by the second grade. This tradition was started years ago by former teacher Mrs. Mary Matusiak. Every year, the students dedicate this performance in her honor. Students were dressed as munchkins and sang and danced delighting the audience.
From flying monkeys to the melting witch... this performance was an absolute hit. After completing their performances, students were able to sign the yellow brick road...a paper road that has been passed down from generation to generation. Every child who has ever been in this play has signed the road. It is so fun for parents and siblings to return every year and find their names. A piece of history that will never be lost.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Tully, Mrs. Coughlin and Mrs. Strelow for taking time to practice with these students. In the words of Dorothy herself...there is no place like home(town).
