Family Connections
The Oklahoma State Department of Education encourages families to be a part of their student's learning. So in conjunction with the OSDE, we will be featuring a few ideas of how to work together with the schools to further your students understanding! Each week, we will focus on a core subject and ways to continue learning at home! This week will feature ideas to highlight Science skills!
"Children are naturally curious and want to learn about things that interest them. Since curiosity contributes to success in the classroom, it is important to encourage it at home." - OSDE 6th Grade Family Guides
Your child will have plenty of questions. It’s okay if you don’t have the answer every time. The best response is always, “Let’s find out together.”
- If you could invent something that would make life easier for people, what would you invent and why?
- What kind of container would keep your coffee the hottest for the longest period of time?
- What would the world’s fastest runners look like in slow motion?
- Tell me something about science you don’t think I already know.
Digital Citizenship
After completing the unit on Digital Citizenship, students had the opportunity to complete a piece of the poster. The winners of the creative contest were combined to make the final poster!
Graphic Art Water Bottle Project
Graphic Design students were designing their own reusable water bottles! When they completed their design, they posted their work to websites that they've designed. They added the thing they liked and what they would change. The students voted on the best water bottle design and the winner's design is being printed on a real bottle as a prize!
Student Council Activities
Students are spending some extra hours before school to make posters for the Homecoming Dress Up Days!
Available Resources
As students transition to the 6th Grade Center, we would like to inform our parents of some additional resources that may be helpful throughout the school year.
- The Indian Education program provides free tutoring for all Collinsville students. Our students can ride a bus to Collinsville Middle School on Tuesdays and Thursdays and meet with tutors in the middle school library. The tutoring is from 3:30-4:30 and parents will need to arrange pick up for their student at 4:30, no school transportation is provided for getting students home after tutoring. More information can be obtained by calling 918-371-5779. This service will begin on September 5, 2023.
- We are very excited that students will be able to obtain additional Math support in our Math Lab this year! The lab is open each day during school hours. Students can receive additional support for a particular math lesson, work on basic math skills, or be able to make up math work from being absent. Ms. Julie Struble will be working with the students and will create a schedule for the students to be able to visit her during one of their elective hours. Please call the school office, 918-371-3144, if you have any questions about this resource.
