Principally speaking
WELCOME back!! Monday is our official first day, it was great to see so many families at supply drop off yesterday evening. Our teachers kicked off our year officially TOGETHER with all of D303 at St. Charles East in the morning. Dr. Gordon led us through reflecting on the great work of last year, looking forward to this year through sharing the strategic plan to guide and our commitment. Our shared commitment of, TOGETHER BUILDING PATHWAYS TO EXCELLENCE, truly inspired us all.
As many of you are going to drop your kids off Monday for their first day, I too have some drop offs. My son who began his schooling at West Point with his basic training in June, is being accepted into the academy tomorrow. This is the first time my husband Jon and I are able to see him after 6 weeks of very limited contact, no cell phone. Needless to say we are very excited but unfortunately I will not be at school Monday. I will return on Tuesday, we plan to have an opening all school assembly in the afternoon. I will welcome all our Lincoln Leopards, we will share our 3 Be's (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe), part of our leadership has an activity planned, learn our school song, and kick off a great year!
I hope you share the excitement we have and I also sensed from your children yesterday, this is our 95th year at Lincoln, it will be a great year!
Arrival and Dismissal-- some changes
Arrival
Students are asked not to arrive before 7:50. We do not want children congregating outside of classroom doors.
Bus: Indiana will be used for all district buses as well as daycare buses. No cars will be allowed on Indiana during arrival and dismissal time. Students will be dismissed from the bus by the driver in small groups starting at the front end so that no students pass others as they exit. A staff member will be present to oversee this process. Students are to head directly to their assigned door.
Cars: Students will be entering through a variety of doors, due to location and mode of transportation. Parents are asked to drive up and drop off using Illinois as was done in the past and students will get out and walk directly to their entrance doors. (refer to map)
Walkers: Our students who walk will be asked to head directly to any door to enter the school. These primarily arre the north, south, and front doors.
Entering the building
Car riders will enter the building using the north doors, and Busers will enter the building using the south doors. Students who are walkers can enter either set of doors. We will no longer specify grade level doors, students can enter the door that makes sense depending on where they are coming from or their mode of transportation. We will no longer use our front door for arrival unless a student is late arriving after 8:00, in which they will buzz the office to enter.
Kindergarten students usually enter the south doors directly into their classroom, or the main south door where they have a short walk to their room, if you drive often parents or caregivers park and walk to the southlawn to drop off. If you plan to drive and use the drop off car line, please make sure we are aware–email their teacher so we can plan for their arrival and have an additional adult or 5th grade helper there to walk to their classroom.
All students should arrive between 7:50 - 8:00 and go directly to their classroom door. We will have staff members outside to assist students that may need help getting to that entrance.
Tardies
If students arrive after 8:00, parents will need to drive them to the front entrance. They will need to enter through the front door.
Dismissal
Students will be dismissed in small groups using a staggered dismissal from their classroom following the same procedure each day.
AM and All Day Kindergarten Dismissal
All students will exit through the kindergarten door on the south side. Bus students will go directly to the bus. Teachers will assist students in finding their parents if they are being picked up on the south side of the building. All parents walking or driving to pick up their children will be asked to wait by the south sidewalk.
PM dismissal ( We will no longer do the intermittent dismissal, busers will go first but after that all will be dismissed)
3:00 - Bus dismissal - students will be dismissed first. Buses will be ready to go, as the elementary schools are the first dismissal of the day.All students who take alternate busses including but not limited to Chesterbrook, Children of America, Salvation Army and those in Baker station will be dismissed.
3:02 - All walkers are dismissed from their assigned doors to exit the building. We ask that parents find a location away from the front of the building and the bus exit to meet their children.
3:02-Car riders dismissed. Cars will line driving east along Illinois and wrap around the front of Lincoln school so not to block the intersection at Illinois and Route 25. Please adhere to this procedure to maintain safety for all. As students are picked up cars can proceed to move up along Illinois, please be patient during this process. It often only takes 5-10 minutes to get everyone into their cars and for you to be on your way.

Kindergarten Health information
Below is a letter from Wendy Landers our Certified School Nurse, reminding all kindergarten families of the records that need to be turned into school prior to the first day of school. You can bring these to Backpack Night on Thursday, 8/10 from 4-6PM, or the office any week day between 8:00am and 3:00pm. This is important to ensure your child is not excluded from school.
A Nursing Note from Miss Christy:
Welcome back Lincoln Leopards! This is a friendly reminder to turn in all required medical forms to the front office or mail them directly to the school (211 South 6th Avenue). Forms can also be emailed to christy.mathern@d303.org.
K: physical examination, immunizations, dental exam and vision exam
2: Dental exam
During this transition back to school, please remember that your child should be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication. Your child must not vomit or have diarrhea for 24 hours without the use of medication. It is important that if your child is ill that they stay home. Some of our Leopards are lacking a healthy immune system and are susceptible to serious illness.
As your school nurse, I am happy to collaborate in treating asthma and implementing an asthma action plan. This also applies if your child tends to wheeze when they get ill and require albuterol. Here are the links to the asthma history form, medication consent, and asthma action plan. A healthy child is a child capable of learning!
I look forward to getting to know your child! I have more than 20 years of inpatient pediatric experience, so your child is in good hands! If you have any changes to your child’s medical or medication history please contact me with this update! I am available if you have any questions or concerns! I also have a variety of resources available.
Thank you for your time!!
