Week of October 23, 2023
Fall Sports
Dear Methacton Families and Community,
This week we'd like to shout out a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the 2023 Methacton Field Hockey team for bringing home the PAC Championship title for the first time since 2017!!! Nice work ladies!
Go Warriors!
Sincerely,
John M. Smink
Director of Athletics and Activities
Cheerleading
It was a busy week at MHS! Spirit days every day, a pep rally on Friday and the Homecoming football game to cap off the week! The team showcased their camp routine at the pep rally and welcomed the Arcola cheer team to the track for the football game on Friday night. Cheering with their little sisters beside them is always a special evening for the team! While the game didn't end quite as we'd hoped, the team had fun cheering on the Warriors. Now, we focus on prepping for Senior Night and celebrating our six senior girls!

On Thursday, the boys cross country team lost a close race to PV finishing second at the PAC championships. The team was led by Freshman Brock Yoder who placed 2nd in the race. JV won their PAC race with Quinn Kumfurt winning the race. Congratulations to Brock Yoder, Charlie Reith, Matthew Sandner, Colin ODonnell, Nate Alex, Quinn Kumfurt and Jackson Harris for qualifying for the district race at Lehigh University on Friday!

Field Hockey
This past week, the field hockey team faced two playoff matches. Tuesday they took on Upper Perk in the PAC Semi-final game. The Warriors held the lead the entire game with all four goals scored by different players: Lizzie Mun, Adriana Hopple, Renee Blake and Giada Catoia. The game ended with a 4-1 win, sending the team to the Championship game on Thursday night.
Thursday's game was against the defending PAC Champions, Boyertown. After a half of no scoring, the Warriors put one ball in the back of the goal cage on a corner play where senior captain, Lily DeWan, passed to her sister Lea DeWan, who shot the ball to the opposite post and into the goal. The remainder of the game was an outstanding defensive performance by both teams. The game ended with a 1-0 victory for the Warriors, bringing home the PAC Championship title for the first time since 2017.
This week, the team moves on to district play. After ending the season ranked 5th in District 1, the Warriors have a BYE on Monday and will face the winner of the Haverford (12) vs Springfield Delco (21) Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
Upcoming Events:
Wednesday 10/15 - District 1 playoff Game vs. TBA (HOME)
Football
The Warriors couldn’t get anything started against Owen J Roberts. A series of turnovers and big plays doomed the Warriors. The 42-7 defeat was a set back but the team must rebound next week as they host the Pottstown Trojans in the PAC crossover game. The game will also be Senior Night and will recognize our 14 seniors who have had an impact on the resurgence of the Methacton Football program. It will also serve as a tune up for the PIAA District One 5A Playoffs - our opponent will be determined after Fridays contest.
Caleb Shultz has stepped in as back up QB and has done a remarkable job at the position he previously had no experience at. He has helped propel our JV to a 3-2 record with his feet and arm. Other members of our program that have a bright future include: Savion Smith, Abe Kazito, Gabe Franks, Matt “Cookie” Nicholson, Shane Corne, Andrew Augustine, Aiden Drozd, and many others.
The 2024 season looks promising!
Upcoming Events:
Friday 10/27 - Game vs. Pottstown (HOME)
Girls Soccer
The girls soccer team finished their season last week with a tough loss to playoff-bound Harriton, despite several spectacular saves from goalkeepers Alana Albergato and Anna Qawasmy. Alyssa Lineen scored the lone goal for the Warriors, from an Aubrey Beaugard cross. It was the last high school game for seniors Aubrey Beaugard, Kendall Ricca, Anna Rees, Mia Chan, and Dannie Bordonaro. The girls finished their season with a record of 6-12-0.
Girls Tennis
The main season for the team has wrapped up for the Warriors but extended individual play had continued this past week with our 4 district doubles qualifiers. Lauren Montgomery, Anika Suresh, Claire Montgomery and Chelsea Lian qualified for the tournament after finishing in the top 4 in the PAC. Both teams ended up with a very tough draw in the first round losing to teams from Conestoga and seeded Downingtown East. Both teams competed hard and proved they deserved a spot in the district tournament but unfortunately did not come up on the winning side this time around. Up next for the season, our number one player senior Hana Nouaime continues to train for the singles state championship she has qualified for coming up next week in Hershey.
Upcoming Events:
Friday 11/3 - PIAA 3A Girls Singles Tennis Championships (AWAY)
Volleyball
This past week the Volleyball team competed in the PAC semi-final match against defending champion PJP. The Warriors lost 3-0 but played really well in defeat. The set scores were 25-20, 25-19 and 25-21. The team played with a lot of heart and a lot of fire. We were able to take the positives into the rest of the week of practices. This week we will start our District play against Abington on Tuesday at home.
