Dear CSD Families,

After watching the unseasonably late winter storms to the north and south of us last week, I'm very happy Creswell has been experiencing "April Showers" instead of "Snow Showers."

Last week, I had the opportunity to visit a middle school class. As I watched them partner and discuss their topics, I was reminded of the importance of students learning not only from their teachers, but also from their peers. As you read about the various accomplishments and achievements of our students in this week's edition of the CSD40 Update, I hope you are as thrilled as I am that they are once again able to join together to share music, explore professional career options, and challenge themselves not only in the classroom, but through athletics and extracurricular activities as well.

On Monday, May 2nd, CSD will be hosting an open house and preview of our committee's recommendations for K-12 English Language Proficiency (ELP) curriculum. At the event, you'll have the opportunity to hear a brief presentation, ask questions, and review materials. A Spanish interpreter and snacks will be available. Your input is valuable and we hope you will be able to join us.

The Creswell School District Board of Directors reviewed and approved the 2022-2023 Academic calendar. Some key dates to note include:

• First Day of Class - September 7th or 8th (depending upon grade)
• Winter Break - December 19th - 30th
• Spring Break - March 27-31st
• Last Day of Class - June 15th

Registration is now open for a FREE kindergarten summer program at Creslane. KITS offers opportunities for students to get comfortable with their school, gain school readiness skills, and meet new friends.

HOSA - is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services. HOSA’s mission is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience.

CHS students recently attended HOSA's state leadership conference and congratulations are in order for their outstanding showing in the competition events. Kylee Chisholm and Audrey Hecker placed 2nd in Forensic Science, Julianne Kersgaard placed 2nd in Veterinary Science, and Gabby Halgren received 5th place in the Sports Medicine classification. Great job, Bulldogs!

On April 16th, Creswell High School's jazz band was recognized for their artistry and accomplishments when they were awarded first place at the Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival.

We are doubly proud as, in addition to the group win, trombonist Gonzalo Cardenas was awarded the Outstanding Musician award for his solo.

Congratulations to a hard-working, talented group of students and to Sandi Green for her dedication to music education!

Students from CHS' FBLA team had an incredibly successful run during their state competition as well.

Giuseppe Mediati was named State Champion and received the 1st place in the Accounting I category.

On Saturday May 7, 2022 at 5:00 p.m., the Creswell High School Boosters Auction Committee will be holding their Annual Benefit Dinner and Auction to raise money for CHS athletic programs and facilities as well as college scholarships for student athletes.

Congratulations to the entire team at CHS for successfully completing this year's accreditation review. CHS has been an accredited high school since 1952 and the process is involved and rigorous, looking at the school's continuous improvement work in three domains: leadership, learning, and resources. Continued accreditation is a testament to the commitment of CHS staff and a public recognition of their drive to serve Creswell's students.

This summer, schools in Creswell School District will again be offering fun, free summer learning, enrichment, and/or credit recovery opportunities for students. Each school will be sharing information with families about their specific offerings. If you have additional questions about the programs, please don't hesitate to contact our school staff.

Registration is now open for Creslane's 2022-23 incoming Kindergarten class and students new to the district. To enroll, kindergarten students must turn five on or before September 1st.

As part of the enrollment process, families need to provide the following documentation:

• Proof of Student's Age (e.g., birth certificate, adoption papers, passport, etc.)
• Proof of Address (e.g., Mortgage statement, rental agreement, utility bill, etc.)
• Immunization Records

Preschool Promise provides free, high-quality preschool for 3 and 4 year olds. To qualify, families must meet age, income, and residency requirements. To learn more about their current program, visit their site here.

Preschool Promise has a 2022-23 Family Interest List so that families can be emailed or mailed the 22-23 application when it becomes available in early summer.

To get on that list, interested families can call, text (541-357-5819), or email (preschoolpromise@unitedwaylane.org) with:

• Adult's first/last name
• Child’s date of birth
• If they would like the app emailed or mailed when it becomes available
• Preferred language
• Email or mailing address, depending on their request

The University of Oregon is accepting applications for their FREE Summer Academy to Inspire Learning (SAIL) pre-college program.

Their mission is to inspire middle and high school students from low socioeconomic, first-generation and underrepresented backgrounds from across the state of Oregon to pursue, enroll and succeed in higher education by providing first hand experiences with faculty, volunteers, college student mentors and university campus resources.

They offer hybrid programs, with a mix of in-person and virtual experiences, in addition to interactive & residential programs.

As we mentioned in our last CSD40 Update, the World Athletics Championships are coming to the United States for the first time and it presents our community with a unique opportunity to be involved.

As part of the championships, the organizers have developed a series of materials and activity library to engage youth and help them explore. To learn more about STEM, healthy lifestyles, art and culture from around the world, and potential careers, students, educators and parents can visit Making Tracks for fun and educational activities related to the event.
