It is hard to believe February is upon us. Things are moving right along in CDL school and students are making huge strides academically. In January we completed our mid year assessments which will help guide teachers for supporting our students to reach their end-of-year goals. Your support has been tremendous and greatly appreciated as the school-home partnership is as important now as ever before.

I know there is a lot of information coming from the district regarding shifts to hybrid, students who choose to stay CDL, and so much more. As the details are finalized we will be getting the information to families as soon as possible so you can make the appropriate decisions for you family. We are excited that the opportunity for in-person learning at school is being planned. Newberg Schools will be sharing further information with our families soon. Below is a link to the latest information shared by the school district.

Timeline For In-person Hybrid Learning

We have a few days off this month so make sure to check the calendar. I have included some important information about parent conferences and report cards which will be going home this month.

Report cards will be available during our supply pick-up event on Wednesday, February 10th from 2pm - 4pm.

Thank you to all of our students who were able to take part in our Kids Heart Challenge with Mr. Quinn. I know some were not able to attend, so look for information from Mr. Quinn on his PE lessons about how your students can take part in the challenge and what your students will be learning about during the month of February.

On February 9th we recognize Ewing Young Day. Here is a little information about Ewing Young.

Ewing Young was a master trapper and a great entrepreneur. He was a pioneer in the opening of the Santa Fe Trail, a central figure in the fur trade of the southwest, and opened the trails between New Mexico and California. In Oregon, he was the first American to ranch, farm, and build a mill in the Willamette Valley. He raised horses and cattle, grew wheat, operated a sawmill and a gristmill, and his farm became a trading post, general store, and bank for his neighbors. He employed a labor force and supplied housing for them. He even uncovered the bones of prehistoric animals on his ranch, the earliest find in the field of paleontology to be reported from the Pacific Northwest. When he died intestate in 1841, the problem of settling his estate ultimately led to the creation of Oregon’s provisional government in 1843.

Each month I will host a virtual "coffee with the principal". (no I won't be having Starbucks delivered to your homes). This will be a very informal chat session where you can ask questions about the school or systems. I hope to see you there. The McKinney-Vento Act is a federal law that provides educational rights and protections for children who are residing in temporary housing. McKinney-Vento Program resources are available to qualifying families to support the academic success of their students.

Resources may include:

• School supplies

• Student clothing/hygiene supplies

• Access to Title IA and other academic programs

• Free meals at school (breakfast & lunch)

• Social services
