T is for Thankful

On Friday November 18, Hometown Kindergartners invited their friends and family to a Thanksgiving feast. We have so much to be thankful for this year and Kindergarteners wanted to express their thanks through song and food. The program began with two songs "5 Little Turkeys" and "Mr. Turkey."

Paint and Sip!

On Tuesday, the PTO hosted a paint and sip. Families got to get together to create a winter inspired picture that they then got to paint while sipping on hot cocoa. The paintings turned out awesome and we loved being able to see families have a great time together.

Musical Mustangs

The OLHMS Band program has been very busy the past month! November started out with the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) auditions. The state is broken into different districts. OLHMS falls into District 1 which extends from Elmhurst to Joliet and down to Downers Grove.

A Grinchy Farewell

"The Grinch raised his glass and then made a toast. To Mrs. Metzger, who we love the most!" Winter break is just around the corner and students and staff are looking forward to spending time with their families. However, the Hannum community knows once winter break hits, we lose Mrs.

4th Grade Scientists in the Making

"It was awesome!"- Every 4th grader walking into school the morning after their field trip. Last week Kolmar 4th graders took a field trip to the museum of Science and Industry. They got to see all the different exhibits and even smiled for a photo in front of one of the many Christmas trees!

Teacher of the Month

On Friday, December 9, 2022 Sward School hosted a Chicago Blackhawks spirit day celebrating Mrs. Collura, 4th grade teacher. Mrs. Collura was honored by the Chicago Blackhawks Future Goals Program as November, Teacher of the Month. Her 4th grade class participates in these curious and engaging STEM activities, allowing for hockey in the classroom.

Last week, Superintendent Dr. Paul Enderle sits down with media specialist Heather McCarthy to discuss the Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School (OLHMS) Library's recent recognition as an Association of Illinois School Library Educators (AISLE) Exemplary School Library Award winner. The OLHMS library is one of only six libraries in the State of Illinois to receive the award.
