Waikīkī School Parent Bulletin - August 12, 2022
Update on Leahi Avenue
According to an email from Safe Leahi, LLC dated August 7, 2022, the City and County of Honolulu will acquire the privately owned section of Leahi Avenue and take over the management and maintenance of the road beginning on Monday, August 22.
In order to address the traffic congestion and pedestrian safety concerns, the City's Department of Transportation Services has prepared a traffic engineering plan for Leahi Avenue that includes, among other components:
1) two-way traffic;
2) no on-street parking;
3) no commercial activity including food trucks and Go X scooters; and
4) traffic slowing features.
A map of the engineering plan that impacts Waikiki School is located below. After the City has implemented the engineering plan, it will undertake traffic and speed studies under the new traffic flow configuration to determine if additional traffic calming features are required.

Introducing Koalani
Our Waikiki School 4th graders were given the fantastic honor to name a new Hawaiian Monk Seal pup this past week. To commemorate the name unveiling, our students had the chance to see "Koalani" and his mother "Rocky" at the Kaimana Beach Hotel.
