Weekly Update ~ May 4, 2020
Happy Monday Oak Grove!
happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
Today, we begin National Teacher Appreciation Week. Never in the history of education has our community, state, country, but our WORLD experienced such a common crisis. Never in my 37-year career have I ever witnessed a group of teachers, administrators, and the myriad of support staff it takes to run a school district, band together in such remarkable fashion. I hope you agree, as parents and guardians, that what the Oak Grove staff has done has been nothing short of remarkable. They completely changed how we teach children--of all ages--in four days. A year ago, if someone told us that we had to do this, we'd say, "give us a year, and we can probably pull it off." We had three days, and were teaching on the fourth. Earlier today, I shared with the staff that I hope...and I hope it is soon...that all of us will look back on what the teacher's accomplished. What you, as parents and guardians don't see, is that they did it without question, and without complaint. They just got it done.
Please know that they couldn't have pulled this off without your support. Together, we have adapted, made changes along the way, and worked to improve our Remote Learning. You, too, are playing a huge role. You are helping our teachers by making sure their students are attentive and engaged. You are helping them co-teach, for which they are grateful.
Although we are focused on getting through these challenging times healthy and safe, I don't want to forget that up until May 16th, we were experiencing another great school year at "The Grove." It was business as usual and we were doing many great, and fun, things. Don't forget to remember them!
I hope you, or your children, can find a moment this week to thank their teachers and support staff. We have four weeks remaining. The weather will turn nice, temptation to be less focused will be there, but we need to finish the year strong. We can do this...Together.
With Oak Grove pride,

Greetings Oak Grove families,
While we know that we are bound to our devices more than ever, we are continuing to monitor student devices to help support responsible decision making. It is important to ensure that the devices are being used for educational purposes and used during times of the day that are not detrimental to their health. Even during our remote learning, we want to support healthy habits for our students. To that end, we have taken the step of restricting student access to the internet on Oak Grove owned devices starting at 10:30 PM each evening. Student access to the internet will be available each morning starting at 6:00 AM. This would be hours that the students should completely shut down their devices and restart them the following day.
