RCE Family Update

We hope everyone has had a relaxing summer! We've spent a great deal of time preparing for the 2022-2023 school year and can't wait to have our students on campus!

Below you will find information for the beginning of school, including 6th grade rookie camp and 7th/8th grade registration. Please take time to read through this information and reach out to us with any questions.

Our 6th Grade Rookie Camp and 7th & 8th Grade Registration dates are below.

During Rookie camp parents and guardians will have the opportunity to stay for an informational meeting while students are in their classes. Student pickup will be at Noon.

For Registration, students will be able to walk the school and meet their teachers after schedule pickup.

Makeup registration will be Monday, August 1st from 12-3:00pm

If you have not completed the Registration Gateway (link) for your student, please take a minute to do so. It is very important to have accurate, updated information for all students. Thank you for taking the time to update.

The free lunch program has ended this school year. Breakfast will cost $1.50 and lunch will cost $2.35. I encourage you to take a minute to fill out the free and reduced lunch application below to see if your family qualifies.

We will not be offering after school care for the 2022-23 school year. Interest has dropped to just a few students over the past few years and the program was unsustainable. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

We've remained committed to a 6 period day at Edwards Middle. This schedule allows for 1 hour in each period and the opportunity to participate in several related arts classes. This schedule has also allowed us to include several Pickens County Career and Technology courses for our 8th graders.

Eligibility

Per the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL), all 7th and 8th graders are eligible to play sports. 6th graders can contact individual coaches for possible managing opportunities.

Daniel High offers the following fall sports to RCE 7th and 8th graders: girls golf, girls tennis, swimming and cross country. Please see Daniel High (link) for more information.

Participation

Anyone interested in playing football or volleyball need to have their 2022-23 paperwork complete in PlanetHS (link) prior to participation.

Football - 1st day of practice is August 2nd from 3:30-5:30pm

Volleyball - Tryouts are August 3-5 at 3:30-5:00pm

Tickets

Edwards Middle and Daniel High will continue using Hometown Ticketing for all ticket sales. Ticket prices for all 2022-23 athletic events will be $6 and will be open to purchase 3 days prior to each event. RCE Tickets (link)

Booster Club

The RC Edwards Athletic Booster Club supports all student athletic programs through purchasing equipment, uniforms, meals, maintenance, and many other things. Greetings RCE Families,

Because of YOU, the 2021-22 school year was a successful one for the RCE PTSO.

Your membership dues, donations, and time spent volunteering provided over $3000 in teacher grants, a staff appreciation breakfast every month, a staff treat every month, and Teacher Appreciation gift cards and celebration.

Every person and any amount makes a difference! Help support the RCE Huddle program, fund grants, provide equipment for students at recess, and much more this upcoming year! Please click the link below to see how you can sign-up to be a member of our PTSO.

MySchoolBucks will be our primary way of accepting fee payments. The only fee that every student needs to pay is the $25 Tech It Home fee that is required to receive a student device in SDPC. For our Grade 8 students taking Algebra 1, we do encourage all students to have access to a TI-84 graphing calculator. Students can purchase their own (TI-84CE is also an option) or rent one from RCE for $6. These fees can be paid through the MySchoolBucks button below. RCE would prefer that families use MySchoolBucks prior to attending a registration event.

Nurse Miller will be on campus during Rookie Camp and Registration. If you would like to drop-off medications at school or meet with her to discuss student health concerns, please email her (christinamiller@pickens.k12.sc.us) or call (397-4207) to set up an appointment.

All families are reminded that every student needs to pay the $25 Tech It Home device fee to cover a comprehensive insurance policy for your SDPC issued device. This fee can be paid via MySchoolBucks (button above).

Any new students enrolled in PCVA who need to pick-up a student Chromebook, should come to school at RCE from 1:30-2:30 during registration.

Every teacher at RC Edwards Middle uses Schoology to post assignments and grades. If you have any questions about using Schoology at home or regarding internet security options, please checkout the links below, which provide a wealth of information.

Please remember that the South Carolina Tax Free Weekend will be held after school starts this year (August 5-7). Our Teachers will keep this in mind as they plan instruction during the first week of school.
