Principal's Update
From Dr. Duffy, James Monroe High School
August 23, 2021
Daily Schedule
The first day of school will be August 10th. We will continue to operate under an A/B schedule with 4 classes each day. The school day will be the same as it has been in the past, from 7:45-2:45. Students will be allowed in the building by 7:00 am. We will periodically run a flex-period schedule that will allow us to provide remediation, enrichment, activities, assemblies, and leadership meetings. Classes will be approximately 10 minutes short those designated flex-period days to allow for a forty-minute flex period. More information on the schedule of the flex-period program will be provided during the first month of school.
COVID Updates
Masks
I want to thank everyone for doing such a great job wearing their masks in the classrooms, hallways, and in the cafeteria when not actively eating. I am also glad to see so many students take advantage of the expanded outdoor dining arrangements in the courtyard. Remember that masks must be worn at all times as the best way to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Additional Information on COVID-Related Matters
We did see a number of students this past week contract COVID and additional students have had to quarantine. I encourage you to visit the FCPS COVID Information Hub Page for details regarding our policies on COVID-related topics [https://www.fxbgschools.us/resources/covid-info] We plan to hold a vaccination clinic in at JM in September during the school day for students, so please be on the look out for more information from me on how to sign up for that clinic. In the meantime, you can always go to https://vaccinate.virginia.gov/ to find a clinic near you.
Information for Virtual Students
Finally, I want to let you know that I have included links to documents in my emails to students and my newsletter on the webpage that provide important information on technology matters. Students who are in isolation or quarantine will be able to attend school virtually until they are eligible to return to school.
