A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Happy February! I don't know about you, but January felt like a very long month for me.
As some of you may know, my husband recently had surgery. While he is doing well, he still is not ready to be left home alone. Therefore, I will be staying home with him for the next couple of weeks.
Fortunately, Superintendent Manuel has arranged for retired Woolwich principal, Tom Soule, to come in and cover for me during my absence. For those of you who don't know him, he's a wonderful, gregarious and skilled educator. Mr. Soule will begin tomorrow, Friday, February 2nd. I know you'll welcome him warmly.
LIBRARY NOTES
CHICKADEE BOOKS
This year, Mrs.Caron did something a little different with the Chickadee books. She had 5th graders volunteer to read and record the stories for all to enjoy. Please visit the PES library website at: https://sites.google.com/rsu1.org/peslibrary and scroll down to the Chickadee books section. Enjoy!
READING IS FUNDAMENTAL PROVIDES FREE BOOKS TO STUDENTS
Reading is Fundamental, a literacy nonprofit with the goal of bringing the joy of reading to children so that they can become skilled readers, has graciously donated three brand new books to each child in Pre-K through 2nd grade at Phippsburg Elementary School. Books were distributed during students' weekly library classes. Students were very excited as well as appreciative of this wonderful gift. Many thanks to Doreen Fournier, Director of Community Impact for the United Way of Mid Coast Maine, for encouraging Phippsburg Elementary School to apply for this opportunity, as well as to Reading is Fundamental for a great selection of high interest books.
