The 2024-2025 lottery for Charter Schools is now open! If your child has any siblings that are not currently enrolled in Chesapeake Math & IT North, but you wish to enroll them, now is the time to enter for a seat for the upcoming school year. Please be mindful that a sibling is a brother or sister by blood, marriage, or adoption. They must be living in the same household (friends, cousins or two separate families living under the same roof do not qualify as siblings.) If your potential student does not have a student ID number please reach out to your boundary school to obtain one.

Have you applied/reapplied for Free and Reduced Priced Meals?
Free or reduced-price meals are available to students based on household size and income. If income falls below the amount listed below for household size, then students living within the household may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students are automatically eligible for free meals if the family receives assistance under the Food Supplement Program or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits.
Changes and/or status changes occur every year. This year there will be a price category change as of October 11, 2023. Please be sure to apply or reapply in the event your price category is affected by this change.

Attendance
Please note we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann, Dr. Fryson and Mrs. Virgil.

ABSENT NOTE SUBMISSION: Please complete this form within three (3) days once your child returns to instruction. Refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook for further clarification regarding excused and unexcused absences.

Nurse Updates
Nurse Ann and the School Health Services strongly recommend wearing a mask and keeping one available in your child's backpack.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

Kind Kindergarten News!
Hello Kindergarten Families:
Winter is here, please make sure that your scholar is dressed appropriately for the weather for outdoor recess.
ELA: We will be working on rhyming words; and identifying and matching the common sounds that each letter represents. Our sight words are; her, how, and down. We will learn how to spell the words and use them in a sentence.
Social Studies: We will learn the different types of maps; of your bedroom, neighborhood, and of a playground.
Math: We are continuing topic 9 reviewing and understanding teen numbers.
Science: We will finish up our topic on what animals need to survive and have a quiz at the end of the week.
We have finished up our MAP and Dibels Testing; and working on completing our DRA’s. Please continue to have your scholars come to school rested and ready.
To celebrate the 100th day of school; our kindergartner’s should create a 100th day of school t-shirt to wear to school. Please check with your scholars teacher if you have any questions. A flier was posted to each classroom's class story, with examples of some T-shirts. Be creative and have fun.

Fascinating First Grade News!
Hello First Grade Families:
With Spring around the corner, please be sure your scholar has an appropriate jacket for the changing weather.
Next week is our 100th day of school! 1st grade scholars may dress as someone who is 100 years old.
First grade students are preparing for their second field trip to the Maryland Science Center on February 21. Permission slips for the field trip went home this week. Please sign and return the permission slips no later than February 14th.

Spectacular Second Grade News!
Next week, we will continue Unit 3, theme Our Traditions. Our question of the week is, what lessons can we learn from traditional tales? In Math, we will continue topic 8 which focuses on time and money. In Science, we will focus on Earth's Processes. In Social Studies, we will continue the lesson on needs, wants, and choices.
We have finished the winter Dibels and MAP testing. Please be on the lookout for results within the next few weeks. As always, we kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness.

Students must wear their school uniform.

Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, we will begin Chapter 4:Lesson 3 Levels of Government.
In Math this week, our upcoming topic is a short one where students are applying their knowledge of place value to quickly multiply greater numbers. For example 3 x 6 = 18, so 3 x 60 should be 18 x 10.
In Science, students are finishing up our topic on Weather and Climate. We're also finishing up presenting STEAM fair projects.

Weekly News!
In Reading, students will explore author's purpose in a biography. In Social Studies, we will continue studying the Northeast region. In Math, students use models and equivalent fractions to add and subtract mixed numbers. In Science, students will describe the basic properties of waves and how they can cause objects to move.
Please check SchoolMax weekly to stay abreast of your scholar's progress in their classes. Grades are updated weekly and this is a great conversation starter with your scholar on what is going well and what needs to be improved to continue to have a successful year.

RELA
Scholars will finalize "A Pet for Calvin" and begin the narrative "The Carp" and "The Hermit Thrush." We will continue to work on Opinion Writing themes and finalize our drafts. Our Word Study will focus on unusual spellings: indict, liaison, language, and colonel.
Social Studies
Students will be reading and discussing Chapter 5 Lesson 4, On the Battlefield and at Home.
Math
This week in Math, students will apply understanding of division to divide fractions.
Science
Students will take the Topic 3 test and start working on Topic 4 EARTH'S WATER SYSTEM.
Next Week:
Monday
Students will dress in HBCU colors. Bowie State is who we will represent for dress down day. Only the colors of gold and black can be worn for dress down day. Please make sure your scholar is dressed appropriately.
DOJO Party
The dojo party will be held next week during PE/Tech.
Kennedy Center Field Trip
February 8, 2024 will be our field trip to The Kennedy Center. Bagged lunches are to be in clear plastic bags only. We will also provide lunch for scholars in the lunchroom before departure. If you plan to chaperone, please email Mrs. Brooks Curry if you have not done so already at qcurry@cmitelementary.org.
Black History Projects
Students will be expected to create a project for Black History Month. The components include, a poster board, an essay, and a wax figure presentation. One grade will be given for each category. Be on the lookout for further instructions. Happy Black History Month!

Greetings,
Tigers have studio time this week. Classes will primarily consist of independent work to plan and work on their projects. Projects include portraits, still life, architecture, and other activities that develop their understanding of shapes and value in 3D images. We will continue to stress planning and craftsmanship.

Hello!
Kindergarten students are working on recognizing High and Low pitch and volume sounds in music. First grade students are learning the different ways to use our voice and how to recognize high and low pitches.
2nd grade is learning how to sing properly.
3rd grade is learning about the 6/8 meter.
4th grade is learning how to recognize and sing pitches in a Major scale.
5th grade is learning about dotted note rhythms and ties.

K-2 students practiced:Introduction to Online Safety: Protecting Your Privacy
This engaging video-based learning object provides the learner with foundational knowledge about the importance of protecting their personal information. The learner understand that they should not share any personal information online and they should always log off or lock their device to protect their personal information.
3-5 students practiced:Hardware Fundamentals: Scanner
During this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice using a scanner for images or objects, saving a scanned image as a file, identifying components such as the scanning surface and scanning beam, and understanding how a scanner works.
PE
This week in PE, students will practice their throwing and catching skills by participating in various activities.
STEM I
Greetings !!! K-2 students are working on a coding express set and 3-5 students are constructing a soccer goal.

In STEM II K, 1st & 5th grade students will be introduced to coding. Fourth grade students will continue exploring coding. Second grade students will be testing their bridges. Third grade students will be continuing to build their pinball machines.
