Course Selection is Happening Now- Be Prepared for Your Meeting with Your Counselor!

Counselors for students in grades 9-11 began meeting with students this week to select courses for next year. Course selection is essential element of postsecondary planning, and it is important that students and parents are prepared for these meetings. In advisory last week, students were shown these brief course selection videos and given a hard copy of a course selection sheet to assist in their course planning prior to their meeting with their counselor. Students and families are strongly encouraged to watch these videos and discuss their potential courses as well as make a list of questions for their counselor in preparation for their meeting!

The Program of Studies is an invaluable resource in your planning as it contains course descriptions to help guide your decisions. To access the Program of Studies you can visit the PHS website>select "Counseling" at the top of the page>scroll down to select "Program of Studies 23-24"

Postsecondary Survey for 11th Grade Students

In advisory on February 7th, all 11th grade students were asked to complete a brief survey on their postsecondary plans. Any junior who did not complete this survey, should be sure to have it submitted by Friday, February 17th. Student responses to this survey will help counselors better advise students as they make their postsecondary plans.

Mid-Year Transcript Requests

Seniors, you may have colleges asking for you to submit a mid-year transcript or mid-year report (if you applied via the Common Application). These transcripts/reports will be available Monday February 13, 2023.

To make a request follow these instructions:

1. log in to Naviance via Clever

2. go to "Colleges I'm Applying To"

3. check the box next to each school where you need a mid-year transcript/report sent

4. click on "Request Transcripts" at the top of the page

5. click the box for Mid-Year transcript and submit request

REMEMBER: If you have made a change to your schedule after you submitted your applications, you should notify your school counselor, as they will need to report the change to your colleges.

ASVAB @ PHS: March 15, 2023

Any student in grades 10-12 who is interested in joining the military can take the ASVAB test at PHS on March 15, 2023 at 7:30 am.

The ASVAB can also be used by students that want to determine Career Exploration Scores to investigate occupations that rely on those skills in the OCCU-Find.
