Centennial School District | Friday, December 15, 2023
Dear Centennial Colleagues, Students, Families, and Community,
As we enter winter break, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude and share my end-of-year reflections. As a learning community, we have been working hard since we kicked off the school year earlier this August, so this break is much-needed and well-deserved.
Time for Reflection
Reflecting on the year, I am proud of our accomplishments as a District and how we continually work together through challenges. In fact, at the end of this message, you will find a 2023 Centennial month-by-month reflection.
I also recognize that the holiday season brings many mixed and bittersweet emotions. For me, along with recognizing achievements, I reflect on the fond memories of my dad, who I lost nine years ago this time of year, as well as our cat, Kitty, who we lost this year after 17 years. Along with feelings of loss comes gratitude for the love shared and valuable time spent together.
Time for Rejuvenation
I encourage each member of our Centennial community to take full advantage of the upcoming break as an essential opportunity for self-care. Winter break provides a pause from the demands of our daily routines, providing a chance to rest, rejuvenate, and prioritize personal well-being.
So please prioritize self-care and return in the New Year refreshed and ready for the exciting opportunities and challenges. Your well-being is vital, and I wish you all a restful and joyous winter break.

As a reminder, Winter Break is Monday, December 18, 2023, through Monday, January 1, 2024. There is no school, and our school buildings will be closed.
Our District Office will be open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the break from 8:00 am. to 4:00 pm. Classes resume on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

April
Staff engaged in the first Centennial Classified Staff Equity Summit designed to deepen the knowledge and understanding of equity and establish equitable practices. The summit served as a kick-off for ongoing, district-wide professional development for all classified staff.
May
A groundbreaking ceremony was held for Phase One of the Centennial High School Stadium Complex improvements, which included an all weather turf field, seismic and safety improvements to the stadium, parking and sidewalk improvements, upgrades to the public restrooms and team rooms, bus parking relocation, and track resurfacing.
With the exception of the track resurfacing, the projects did not use bond dollars and, instead, were completed through the Board Reserve Fund, dedicated to one-time expenses such as facility improvements.
June
We were excited to celebrate our graduates!
July
Nearly 1,000 students participated in K-12 Summer learning programs focused on cultivating joy, connection, and curiosity through well-rounded summer learning, as well as credit recovery.
August
We celebrated our first in-person ‘Back to School Event’ since the pandemic. We celebrated with cheers from each school and department and introduced the District’s New Strategic Plan, Roadmap ‘27.

A ribbon cutting was held during the Centennial Homecoming Parade for Centennial High School facilities upgrades, including a new turf field and resurfaced track.
Elementary students at Meadows, Parklane, Patrick Lynch, and Powell Butte Elementary Schools began use of brand new dedicated gymnasiums.
October
School leadership teams met to conduct the first Data Summit as part of Roadmap ‘27 to monitor the impact of our learning and adjust and improve instructional practices and systems.
November
Elementary and Middle School staff engaged in Days 3 & 4 of four-day Responsive Classroom training focused on creating optimal learning conditions for students to develop the academic, social, and emotional skills needed for success in and out of school.
December
A celebration was held to recognize the opening of the New Eagles Court at Centennial High School. The new ‘food court’ style cafeteria included a complete replacement of the service counters, equipment used to hold and serve food, flooring, lighting, digital menu displays, and other improvements. This project will support Centennial’s transition to preparing more meals from scratch as well as supporting more variety in our menus.
May you have good health, and I hope 2024 will be a fantastic year for each member of our Centennial learning community.
I look forward to seeing you in January 2024.
