• We are going to push all of our 7th grade registration plans out one week. There is more about this below.

After a long week of AMI, ask your child to sit down with you and show you his/her assignments and what has been completed. Managing seven google classrooms and the work can be challenging for many students. We often talk about "executive functioning skills" which involve studens being able to plan ahead and meet goals, follow multiple-step directions even when interrupted, staying forcused despite distractions, and organizing information, materials and supplies. These are just a few of those skills - and AMI requires students to put these skills to the test. Reach out to teachers if your student needs help!

Have you ever asked your student how his/her day was and you get one word answers? Use these questions to ask specific questions about the week and get him/her talking!

• Science 6 - Explain one way the earth is unequally heated.
• Acc. Math 7 - What has to be true of the sides and angles that make up a triangle?
• Science 7 - What are the abiotic (non-living) and biotic (living) parts of an ecosystem?
• ELA 6 - Define synonym and give a synonym for weary. Now make a senctence using AMI and your weary synonym.

• ELA 7 - What was your favorite poem and why?

• Math 6 - What are the three measures of center? What do they do? How do you calculate them?

• Math 7 - We got 4.5 inches of ice and then 2.25 inches melted today, tonight we get 2.2 inches of ice. How much ice will we have when we walk up tomorrow?

• Language Lab - When and why is it important to write in sequential order?

• PE - What is Tchoukball?

• Art 6 - Tell me about the project you just completed and which artist it was related to. Why does this artist use this technique?

• Stagecraft: Which musical had the best Scenic Design in your opinion? What did you like about it?

• Advanced Art: Which person did you choose to reference for your upcoming project? Show me the reference photo you created during your AMI days.

• Art 7: What colors are in the color wheel, and what objects did you use to create your color wheel?

HMS Student Council is hosting a tailgate for the HMS vs. HTMS basketball game. Tickets are $9 and include food after school and entry into the basketball game. Tickets are on sale in the HMS school store. There are only 150 tickets available! Students who purchase a ticket will receive an armband on gameday. Students need to be picked up at HMS at 5:40. The theme is NEON! "GLOW" Heroes!

Hellstern Middle, Central Junior High, and Har-Ber High Schools work very closely together to ensure smooth transitions to each school. We are committed to making the process as easy as possible for your students and you! It's hard to believe, but it is already time to start talking about transitions.

For our future 8th graders, here is a list of what will be happening this month and next:

• NOW: Future 8th grade students/parents will access "Future 8th Grade Transition" slide show (linked here)

• February 7th: CJHS Open House from 5-6:30; Open House: Tables will be set out for parents/students to visit to get information on classes including electives. This will include tables for Fine Arts, Athletics, electives.
• February 13th-17th: Future CJH students will enter classes into Home Access Center (HAC) *2/13 - Champions; 2/14 - Explorers; 2/16 - Patriots; & 2/17 - Make-up
• March 6th & 7th Hellstern Conferences : Final parent/student sign-off of 2023-24 schedule

Here is an outline of what will be happening at the Parent Night - some details are subject to change as we get closer to Feb. 7th.

Tuesday, February 7th: Co-Parenting Across Separations and Generations

Participants will learn skills for co-parenting after separation or within an extended support network: how to set boundaries, communicate, maintain relationships, and resolve conflicts. Register here.

The next meeting is February 7th @ 8:30am.
