MA is Back to Business
Year 23/24 has started and we are excited to share.
MA is your small, safe and supportive choice.
At Marshall Academy we specialize in being small, safe and supportive.
Our shear size allows an environment for our students to thrive on a personal touch to their own personal education. We have only one teacher per grade and we limit the size of each grade to make sure that we foster connection with each individual student.
- In Kindergarten - 2nd grade we cap each class at 22 students.
- In grades 3-5th we cap our classes at 24.
- In grades 6 -12th we extend the cap up to 26 students per class.
Currently, we have a waiting list in some grade levels, however we have more opening available.
If you or someone you know would like to join our family please tell them to sign up as soon as possible.
Go online, www.marshallacademy.org or call the front office ((269) 781-6330) for more help.
* Our enrollment packet is attached below.

Meet our New Staff
Pre-K - Mrs. Clarington
2nd Grade - Mrs. Neckerman
Hello Marshall Academy!
My name is Janie Neckermann and I am the new second grade teacher! I have 5 years experience teaching second grade, 2 years teaching first grade, and 1 year teaching K-8 general music over at Endeavor Charter Academy in Battle Creek. My favorite thing about teaching is building relationships with the kids, and seeing them tackle problems they didn't think they could solve. My favorite subject is math because every problem has a solution...unlike many things in our real life. :-) I currently live in Battle Creek with my husband Rich, and my two daughters Lucy (6) and Madeline (4). Thank you for giving me such a warm welcome to Marshall Academy!
4th Grade- Ms. Robilliard
Hello! My name is Miss Robilliard. I am not new to Marshall Academy, but I have taken a new role as the 4th Grade teacher! I went to Marshall Academy as a student for elementary and most of middle school. I have worked with children in different capacities since I was twelve. I have worked in preschool, children's camps in the summer, children's library, as a substitute teacher, summer school for MA, and as a Special Education Aide as well. I have always wanted to become a teacher. I am passionate about helping students become the best they can be, both as a student and as a citizen in their communities as well. I enjoy traveling, spending time with family, and reading. I have a dog named Watson, who is quite the stinker, but very loveable. My favorite part of working with students is to see them succeed and believe in themselves.
5th Grade- Ms. Moon
Hello, my name is Miss Moon and this is my first year teaching at Marshall Academy. I am from Battle Creek, MI and I went to college at Saginaw Valley State University for my bachelor's degree in education. At home, I have a 10 year old German Shepherd named Kaiser that I love so much. My hobbies are reading, traveling, and being outdoors. I am so excited for this school year!
High School Science - Mrs. Reynolds
I am excited to be a part of the Marshall Academy Family as the High School Science Teacher! Northern Michigan University is my alma mater where I received a bachelor's degree in Biology with an emphasis in Ecology. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked 9 years in the science industry in a Research and Development Lab. While working there, I developed Lateral Flow Tests for antibiotic detection in milk, tests for allergen detection in food, and helped mentor many young scientists. I look forward to bringing my love of science to the classroom.
High School Math - Dr. Sweeney
Dr. Samantha Sweeney, originally from New York, graduated with a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Cruz before moving to Michigan in 2019. She worked as a Quality Assurance Manager for a BioTech company in Kalamazoo prior to her roles in higher education at Kellogg Community College and Glen Oakes Community College. Dr. Sweeney is passionate about STEM education and wishes to instruct students to be better students for the future.
Driver / Paraprofessional - Mr. Amaro
Mr. Amaro is a parent of two MA students and provides additional help with coaching our basketball teams. This year he is also driving the bus for our CACC students, and providing support in our elementary classrooms.
Paraprofessional - Mrs. Wagner
I’m new to working in the school setting, but I am excited to be a part of the team. I have two children that attend Marshall academy, one who will be graduating this year. I live on a hobby farm which has prepared me well for expecting the unexpected! I look forward to a great year!
Paraprofessional - Mrs. Rainey
My husband and I just moved to Marshall from New Hampshire! I have worked with kids of all ages for the last 25 years. I have 3 children of my own, ages 18-22, who are attending colleges in Maine, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. When we all get together we love to work out, eat, watch movies, and play/watch all kinds of sports! They haven't been to Marshall yet, but I'm sure they are going to love it. I actually grew up outside of Detroit, but haven’t lived here for over 30 years. I’m excited to be back!
MA Specials: to spice up your day.
P.E. with Mrs. Young
This year I'm focusing on team building and class building activities in addition to exercise.
The kids know I expect everyone to be respectful, follow directions and have good sportsmanship...and they are doing amazing so far this year. I'm so proud of them!
I have a reward chart for each class to earn a "free day" in P.E. class when their class meets their goal. To earn a stamp one example is to freeze and be quiet within 5 seconds of the whistle blowing, or say "sorry, are you okay?" and help someone up without prompting if a situation happens in class.
There will be some exercise challenges throughout the year for "healthy" prizes. I'd like to start a Recreation Club soon where we do an activity every other week (biking at Fort Custer, soccer, hockey, flag football, basketball, volleyball, softball, swimming at the college pool, tennis at the courts in town, and more).
It's going to be a great year!
Art with Mr. Reid
My name is Dennis Reid II and I am the Visual Arts teacher. I am a caricature artist and children book illustrator. have been at MA for years as a bus driver, and now teacher.
This school year, I'm looking forward to teaching your children how to use different art mediums such as graphite pencils, oil pastels, chalk and beads. We will also learn how to train our eyes to draw what we see exactly and how to take real life and animate it.
Get ready as your children take their art skills to the next level. Lets be creative and lets draw!!!
Music with Mr. Nelson
This year in the music department I am excited to have three unique bands: 5th grade, Middle School, and High School. Having bands specific to certain age groups enables me to give individualized attention and education. Our HS Band now only has five sophomores, but it will allow me to make arrangements of music that are catered to the students.
The 4th grade students will be learning to read and perform music on recorders to prepare for 5th grade band the following year.
I am most-excited for the CMU Band Day trip at the end of September, when the high school band members and I will spend a day with the Central Michigan Marching Chips, practicing and performing marching music and enjoying the EMU vs. CMU game.
This year sounds like success to me!
Transportation Update
MA is committed to doing what we can to get every student to school. With the current bus driver shortage we have had to reduced our number of stops this year while still covering the same large area.
We have one full time driver who runs 4 routes a day to the Albion area and two drivers who split running the other two routes a day to the Marshall, Battle Creek area. These three drivers have been servicing our students for a number of years and we appreciate all they do.
Currently, we have 3 routes:
- Blue Route - Driven by Mr. Reid, to Albion
- Red Route - Driven by Mr. Reid, to Albion
- Green Route - Driven by Mr. Spotts and Ms. Jones, to Marshall and Battle Creek.
- 3 Pick-ups in Battle Creek from 6:40- 7:00
- 5 Pick-ups in Marshall from 7:15-7:35
- 8 pick-ups in Albion from 6:30 -7:35
