Dress-down Thursdays in March
Help our 8th grade students raise money for their trip to Savannah by bringing $1 to dress-down on Thursdays. Dress-down will take place on both campuses every Thursday from March 2 to March 30. Parent volunteers will be collecting money at the front door and walker door (LC) and the carpool door and instrument drop off door (UC). Please make every effort to bring the exact change. Thank you for your support!
Lower Campus notes
February is Black History Month
On Friday's throughout February we are asking the GLOBE community to wear red, green, yellow, black, or a Black-history themed t-shirt.
Community Circle
We had a wonderful Community Circle on Friday. Several of our students served as MC’s and drummers. Ms. Barreneche led the students in a Spanish song.
Social-Emotional Support at GLOBE
You might be familiar with teachers providing additional academic support for their students, but did you know that many of our staff members provide social-emotional and behavioral support for students, too? Data/MTSS* Coach Sabrina Manns shared just a few examples of how we're meeting a variety of our students' needs at Lower Campus:
Mr. Bill, our custodian, gives students who need a sensory break an opportunity to help with lifting boxes or moving tables.
Ms. Keyana, our receptionist, does a morning check-in with students who need a little pep talk before starting their day.
Ms. Holland, a third grade TA, invites students who need a movement break to come with her to run an errand within the school building.
Ms. Grant, our counselor, facilitates social groups on topics like friendship and problem-solving.
Mr. Felix, a third grade teacher, plays team sports with students at recess to strengthen relationships and help students navigate unstructured play.
We are so fortunate to have so many caring adults who are attuned to our students' needs!
*Not familiar with MTSS? Multi-Tiered System of Supports in Georgia (MTSS) is a tiered system of supports that integrates assessment and intervention within a school-wide, multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and reduce behavioral problems.
Upper Campus notes
Black History Month performance at Upper Campus, Friday, February 24.
We will have the culminating celebratory presentation of Black History Month at 1:30pm on Friday, February 24, and parents/guardians of performers are invited to attend. Please park across the road at Church in Atlanta.
Reading Bowl update
In the Reading Bowl, our 4th and 5th grade students, having won 2nd place in the DeKalb County Reading Bowl, competed against all of the best elementary schools in the Metro Atlanta area and came in 2nd place. Here they are celebrating with their trophy!

Field Day Planning
Calling UC parents! Field Day happens every year in May, but it cannot happen without parent involvement. If you are interested in helping to plan for the UC Field Day, please reach out to Fred and Emily at classpac.globeacademy@gmail.com.
Auction Planning
Save the Date! This year’s Auction will be on April 14 and 15, ending with a Live Auction at Pontoon Brewing in Tucker! Registration and ticket information will be sent out soon.
Will you be out and about in Toco Hills, Buford Hwy, Brighten Park, Decatur, Avondale Estates, or Chamblee? Send us an email if you can ask for donations from businesses in those areas (donation tax form). Also, are you a GLOBE-owned business or artisan and interested in donating? Tangible and non-tangible items are welcome - we’d love to help you promote your work.
Earth Day Service Projects
GLOBE will celebrate Earth Day on April 22 with service projects to beautify our campuses. We are looking for one or two volunteers to lead projects at Lower Campus (Upper Campus already has a lead). The school has identified which projects will be done and now we're looking for helping hands to bring them to life. Interested? Send us an email.
Volunteering
• Each family at GLOBE is requested to volunteer 10 hours per year.

Summer Camp registration is open!
This year's Summer Camp will be a mixture of language enrichment and a fun afternoon that will consist of arts/crafts, music, games, Field Day Friday’s and one off-site field trip per week. Registration is open for Kindergarten through 5th grade.
The three weeks that camp will be in session are June 12–16, June 19–23 and June 26–30. Hours will run from 9am to 5pm. For details and to register, click here.
Read Across America Day
Kindergarten to 5th grade students will be celebrating Read Across America Day on March 2 and 3. All students will celebrate on their English day! Students will have the opportunity to choose a book that represents their culture or family history. They can dress up as a person from that book and if possible donate a copy of the book to their classroom library.
We hope to add additional books to the classroom libraries so they can be even more robust and reflective of our diverse community. Reading diverse and inclusive books in the coming weeks might help your student discover a character with whom they identify. You might even find one here on Read Across America's calendar for the year. Looking for even more diverse books? Click here.
