Halloween 2023
This letter is to remind all of our families of the expectations we have regarding Halloween costumes.
**Students in grades K-5 may bring their costumes to school and will change into them prior to their 2:00 PM parade. Costumes should be appropriate for school - no blood and gore, or objects that resemble weapons.
**Students should refrain from having colored hair or makeup on their faces throughout the day.
**Students should not bring or wear anything to school during the day that will be distracting to the learning process.
**The Halloween Parade with costumes will begin at 2:00 PM on October 31, 2023. Parents are invited at 2:00 PM to view the costume parade. We ask that you wait outside of the school to view the parade. The map highlights the parade route in yellow. You may stand anywhere along the parade route to view the parade.
**The Halloween parties will take place in each classroom at the conclusion of the parade. Those parents who have signed up either as the classroom party coordinator or a party participant (assist party coordinator) will be allowed to attend the Halloween parties.
We appreciate your cooperation with these expectations.

News from the Nurse
Flu season appears to be upon us already this year and I would like to remind SGE families of ways you can help prevent the spread of illness in our school:
- If your child has had a fever (any temperature above 100.3) they should be kept home for at least 24 hours after the fever has subsided WITHOUT the use of fever-reducing medications, such as Tylenol or Motrin. Masking a fever does not prevent the spread of illness to others.
- Any student with vomiting and diarrhea should be kept home until they have been symptom free for at least 24 hours and have kept down 2 solid meals.
- Please encourage your child to wash their hands frequently and especially after washroom use and before eating.
- Reinforce healthy behaviors at home, such as avoiding putting hands in their mouth, eyes or nose and covering coughs/sneezes with an elbow.
- Please consider how your child is feeling and acting before sending them to school. If your child wakes with a headache, stomachache, fatigue or general feeling of being unwell, it is recommended to monitor them at home. If the symptoms improve and they are able to participate in all school activities, you may bring them in later in the day.
- No medication may be given to any student by the school nurse without a Doctor's completed and signed Medication Authorization Form on file. If your child is ill enough that they will need pain or cough medicine to be given regularly throughout the day, then they should not be attending school and should be cared for at home.

Message From Mrs. Hartnett
Read To Succeed
We are excited to participate again in the Chicago Wolves Read to Succeed incentive program for the 2023-2024 season at Spring Grove Elementary. You can access and print the reading log at home by clicking this link: Chicago Wolves Read to Succeed Reading Log Printable. If you need a pre-printed copy of the log, your child can ask their classroom teacher for one or you can email Mrs. Craddock. Fill out the reading log with the books or minutes your child reads to complete his or her reading goal and return it to your child’s classroom teacher when completed. Once their log is turned in, your child will receive a certificate for a free ticket to any regular season game. The certificate includes directions on how to redeem the free ticket as well as a schedule of games. Students will receive their certificate within a few days of turning in their logs so the earlier the log is turned in, the more game options you will have to choose from. Completed reading logs should be turned in by Friday, December 17th. Logs will be accepted after this date, but please email Mrs. Craddock if you plan to turn it in after 12/17. The Chicago Wolves season has already begun and runs through April 21st.
If you have any questions, email Mrs. Craddock at pcraddock@nsd2.com.
