A Note from Dr. Hooks

Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is the District of Columbia's annual “State Assessment” of Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA), based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The PARCC was administered in spring 2022, for students in grades 3-12. The PARCC has performance levels 1-5, with levels 4 and 5 “indicating readiness for college and career”. (Terms such as proficient and advanced have also been used.)

Please see below, for an overview of the 2022 scores for Hyde-Addison ES, DC ("State"), DC Public Schools and DC Public Charter Schools. Student specific data will be shared with families, when available.

Student Mental Health Services: Parent/Family Referrals

School mental health services and supports are an effective means of addressing the mental health needs of children and improving the learning environment. Click here if you would like to refer a student for mental health or counseling support provided by Ms. Stovall. Referrals will be processed by the Mental Health Team and staff will receive communication and updates regarding services.

Chess at Hyde-Addison

The Knight School is so excited to be returning this fall to Hyde-Addison! The Knight School Chess Team is hoping to be your school's official chess team and chess party. Our unique model has swept America because it has never been seen before: we simply invite every beginner in your school to join our school chess team and we use only super-fun teaching methods such as super-fast chess clock-slapping chess games, zany chess videos, a strict bully-free environment, silicone wristbands for tactics mastery, chess puzzlers for candy, driving music, hilarious tactics-lesson videos, and Mardi-Gras bead chess tournaments each day we practice.

You're Invited: DCPS Block Party

The DC Public Schools Back to School Block Party is a 3-hour celebration to welcome students, parents, teachers, school administration, and community members to a successful start to the new school year. The Block Party is designed to engage the DC Community in a fun and welcoming environment while providing information and multiple resources from local partner organizations and District Government Agencies such as health & wellness, food access, and college & career readiness to name a few. There will be free food and fun activities for all ages including a moon bounce, face painting, and student performances. Surprise VIP guests will also be a part of the afternoon celebrations!

Art All Night

5:30pm - 7:30pm: Seven rotating hands-on activities for elementary age children hosted by Hyde-Addison ES Teachers. Examples include:

• Rock Painting
• Wearable art
• and more!

2022 DCPS Standing Ovation Award

Hyde-Addison ES has received a coveted 2022 DCPS Standing Ovation Award for “Building the Bridges for Students and Families” as presented by the DC ED Fund. Bridges are essentially about granting access and creating opportunities for those who might not otherwise have them. At Hyde-Addison ES, our “High 5” Priorities are grounded in building bridges. Our equity and antiracism work has been at the forefront of our efforts. We are a diverse school community with many families from around the world and from every Ward in the District. With access and exposure to superb instructional practices and whole child supports, we have continued to narrow opportunity gaps for students and prove that all children can grow and achieve. This has been a team effort and we thank you all. Well done, Hyde-Addison Elementary School Community. Congratulations!

Early Dismissal

Parents/Guardians must be at the main entrance of the school building before 2:55pm to pick up students for early dismissal.

On Time Arrival and Dismissal

All students should be in their class lines by 8:30am. Tardies are recorded and monitored. All students should be picked up at 3:25pm. Families that are running late in the afternoon must call the front office to inform them of what time they anticipate arriving to ensure the safety and emotional well-being of the children.

PLEASE do NOT park in the kiss and ride.

There is typically parking available on the side streets and on P street. But, families may not park in the Kiss and Ride and legal parking on O St. is certainly limited.

If you would like a Kids Ride Free Card for your student, please fill out this short form. They will be sent home in students' backpacks on Mondays.

Family Library Mornings

We are excited to open the library up to families so that you can pick out book with your child on their class's assigned day. Please see below for the date and time!

School Meals- Payments and Details

All students have access to free breakfast and do not need to sign up or register. Information about lunches is more nuanced, based on family circumstance, and can be found here, including how to add funds to your student's account. Families that do not qualify for free or reduced meals click HERE for meal price information and payment.

What Immunizations are Required for Students?

To attend school, students must be current with their immunizations. Immunization compliance is documented by submitting a completed Universal Health Certificate to the school at the time of enrollment. A series of medical forms, DCPS School Enrollment Packet.pdf, should be turned in to the school as part of the enrollment process, and any updated forms throughout the school year should be submitted to the school nurse.
