Vouchers
We and many other public education advocates feel that this upcoming session will be a war on vouchers. We are vehemently against vouchers, mostly due to the lack of accountability for education funding. We know there are legislators that will try and push bills through in support of vouchers, but we will be advocating against them. Texas Monthly recently published an article all about a scheme that a group of people tried to push through in Wimberly, Texas. It's a convoluted mess that barely makes sense, but we know it's just the beginning.
Another reason we are anti-voucher is because the system itself is 100% a money-making system to privatize public education and who is putting the money behind all the voucher schemes is very one-sided. Check out this article on what to look for when you read about vouchers: Diane Ravitch Blog Here

As the 88th Legislative session is weeks away, we are gearing up for what will certainly be an interesting legislative session and Raise Your Hand Texas needs your help advocating on behalf of our 5.5 million public school students and educators. You are an expert or have an interest in public education and elected officials SEEK your input. Please fill out THIS short, five-question survey (link below) to help know when would be best to reach out to you to help. If you know of others advocates who would be willing to do the same, please pass this on to them.

Feeder Event Planning
Our Churchill HS feeder Reps have been working together for a month marketing an event that involved the schools that feed into Churchill. So proud of the Reps, we are so lucky that they have chosen to be a part of RootEd. Pictured: Reps for Jackson, Oak Meadow, Hidden Forest, WC Principal Bloomer

Rep Spotlight of the Month
Cruz Ramirez is the RootEd Rep and Art Teacher at Rawlinson Middle School in NISD and is our go-to person for all things TikTok! In actuality, she is a fabulous, creative force for marketing Rawlinson and all of her student accomplishments.
"I love Rooted because I can share all the magic that happens within those Rawlinson walls! Which is “mucho magic.” We go above and beyond the curriculum.
Rooted lets people see everything our school offers our students not only academically but also fostering the whole child. The community gets a glimpse of what is going on in their child's learning. Before we had no way to rapidly communicate to the outside world of all the wonderful things that were being learned or being created in the classroom/school walls. But now I can use social media/ #RootEdRawlinson in a positive way and showcase all the magical things that are happening at Rawlinson.
What I love about Rawlinson is how our teachers and staff always go above and beyond for their students. Rawlinson has so many clubs, sports, activities, events to keep our kids and our community engaged. Our parents and PTA are very supportive of our teachers and staff. Promoting what you’re passionate about is easy, sharing it is easier! "
