Announcements & Updates

- Final request: As holiday break approaches, Mrs. Austenberg and Mrs. Toth kindly remind parents to communicate any travel plans. Over the break, please reach out via email to inform of any changes to travel plans, and/or health concerns that may arise. Note that if over the holidays, any members of your household develop COVID-like symptoms, were tested, or are awaiting test results, all students must stay home. Again, please communicate with Mrs. Austenberg and Mrs. Toth via email (we will be checking daily!). Thank you in advance for helping to keep our school community safe and open for in-person learning in 2021.


- To provide our students with a true break and an opportunity to spend time with family, decompress, and focus on wellness, access to district Google Drive accounts, including email, will be suspended for students. Drive access will be turned off after dismissal on the 23rd and will be reinstated on Sunday, January 3. During this time, parents are reminded to please monitor their child's technology use, including social media. A note from Mrs. Lanka

In Advisory today, students spent time celebrating the holiday season by playing a friendly game of "holiday teacher trivia" (think "Ms. Carozza's favorite holiday song is......." :)


On another note, recently, I downloaded the "Virtual Hope Box" app recommended by the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide. My favorite part is the "Relax Me" section - here, you and/or your child can practice "Controlled Breathing" (see image). By setting the duration of the inhale and exhale, you can ensure the exercise will be comfortable for you as you practice this skill over time, paired with a relaxing image and music. In addition, you can explore progressive "Muscle Relaxation" and "Guided Meditations" exercises that may help alleviate feelings of stress and anxiety. Finally, the "Coping Tools" section allows you to create "Coping Cards" where you can list symptoms (i.e., racing heart) and your favorite coping skill (deep breaths) that help you cope with it. As we all approach celebrating the holidays differently this year, feelings of loneliness or sadness may arise. Consider exploring the virtual hope box with your child as a way to build your coping skills tool-box together over break. I hope you all enjoy this time off to relax and recharge - enjoy!!
