November 7-November 11
Greetings Staff,
Thank each of you that participated in Science's challenge to put out your best ghouling decorations during this year's parent teacher conferences. Parents really enjoyed seeing the creativity that was displayed. Punnett Squares, Marginal returns, enzymes and forensics in action was a hit this week. Kid's voting kicked off with students standing in line waiting to cast their vote similar to the what we will be doing tomorrow if we didn't do early voting. Below are several photos from the Halloween door decorating contest that STUCO sponsored. They have already issued the challenge for Christmas. What a way to end the week the volleyball team worked hard this season and although they didn't make it to state we let them know that they "doughknow" how proud we are of them doughnut surprise breakfast. The Tobin tournament was amazing as teams from all over the interior and the state traveled to show their support.
Also, as a reminder the Board, stated that the month of November will be recognized as Native American/American Indian Month. We are off to a great start as Ms. Jessica, our new Cultural Liaison, has been teaching beading to some our interested students during SSP that have great grades. As part of our commitment to ensure students are exposed to various Native cultures there will be a showcase at different optional assemblies each week. This week, the Native Youth Fiddlers will be performing during SSP. If you have not signed up your class; don't worry it's not too late. Please email me by the end of today.
By now each of you have received a survey from Dr. Gaborik. As mentioned with the attachments from our last staff engagement this is a way for her to gain insight to your input on a consistent system district-wide. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.
Friday, November 11th, is Veterans Day. This year our culinary arts program will cater a luncheon for our veteran staff, parents, and students. There will also be performances from our very own NPH choir, AFJROTC, and appreciation from North Pole Mayor Bryce Ward. This program will take place during lunch on Friday. Students of veteran parents that have RSVPed will receive a pass dismissing them ten minutes early on Friday prior to lunch so that they can have time to enjoy the festivities with their parents.
This year NPH's AFJROTC received a thank you from Senator Murkowski for their work on co-hosting along with Lathrop High School's JROTC, the Inaugural No One Left Behind Awards Banquet to honor First Responders. This event partners FNSBSD with the Fairbanks Rescue Mission and costs $75.00 to attend. The event takes place Saturday, November 12 at Ryan Middle School beginning at 5:00 pm.

INSPIRATION OF THE WEEK....
Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students.
Solomon Ortiz
NPH Honors A Fallen Hero
On October 28th, Governor Walker ordered all Alaska flags to be lowered until November 4, in honor of Police Sgt. Officer Allen Brandt. Officer Brandt was shot multiple times in the line of duty on October 16th and later succumbed to his injuries during surgery.

BOTTOM LINE OF THE WEEK....
The closer you are to your students, the more engaged they will be, the better their behavior will be, and the less tempted they will be to "scheme."
