A Note From Dr. Neubeck
Our staff focus this year is to learn about trauma and what kids and families do when faced with trauma. Not only do we want to be able to recognize the effects of trauma but how can we best help our students, families, and fellow staff members who are experiencing trauma. We all experience trauma at different points in our life and some trauma is more severe and longer lasting than others. This is where the caring community of Byron can shine through.
In our newly renovated Community Education Center (CEC), our staff has created the Food Pantry and Community Closet which is a place where families in need can receive toiletries, clothing, and other items along with food. We need to stock those shelves. They are in the middle of their drive to collect items and I urge you to find a way to contribute. In Byron, we have more families in need than you might expect. We know that students and families often cannot function successfully if they do not have their basic needs met. Below, you will see the shopping list for the drive. Please consider dropping off items and keeping Byron a great and caring place for ALL residents. Please reach out to Katie Schmitt at the CEC with questions (507-775-2336). Thank you in advance and it really is great to be a Byron Bear!

A Note from Jennifer Dole
Many of us have felt overwhelmed as a parent. With Early Childhood Family Education you don’t have to go through it alone. ECFE offers parenting classes including New Baby Parent Time and Welcome Baby Dinner. These are great opportunities to meet other parents, share your parenting joys, and troubleshoot parenting challenges.
Did you know that ECFE also provides individualized parent support? If you ever feel like you need help navigating new challenges, we are here for you! Is your child struggling with potty training? Are you recently separated from your spouse? Is your child feeling jealous of the new baby? Ann Miksch is the ECFE Parent Support Specialist on our team and she has a curated collection of books and resources in the Parent Education and Community Room that you can borrow. As a licensed parent supporter, Ann has the knowledge and experience to help you become more confident in your parenting role. You can reach out to Ann directly to set up a one-on-one parent support appointment to chat about what’s going on for you right now.

It's getting time to start thinking about Christmas Anonymous. We run our own in-house program through Byron Schools with families, organizations or businesses "adopting" local families for Christmas. These families have financial hardships that prevent them from being able to provide gifts and a little holiday cheer with their children.
If you are interested in ADOPTING a family for Christmas, please email me at christine.jostock@byron.k12.mn.us
If you are a family that has financial hardship this year, please watch future publications for information on how to apply to be adopted.

The District Needs Your Help
It is that time of the year where the kids and staff are back and so are some illnesses. We are looking for people to help fill in as a substitute or part-time employee. We need bus drivers for day routes and evening activities as well as teacher and paraprofessional substitutes. The great thing about these positions is that they can often work around your schedule and you are not committed to them every day. Therefore, if you have some time and want to be placed on a list to fill one of these positions, please contact the District office at 507-775-2383. If you want more information about being a bus driver, please reach out to our Transportation Manager at val.lindahl@byron.k12.mn.us.
