Meadow Hall Staff Newsletter
Week of February 12
February 12-16
Valentine's Day class parties are on Wednesday, February 14 at 2:15pm (1:30pm for grade 3). Parents helping with the party will sign in at the main office. Please be cautious with any allergies in your class.
Girls on the Run - Grades 3-5
GOTR registration for the Spring season begins on February 14th! This is a program for girls in grades 3-5. Please promote in your classroom! There is a fun new and exciting curriculum. All season we will work on preparing for our 5K which will take place on Sunday May 19th. Come join us for an exciting Spring season! Contact Reagan Blankenship, lead coach, with any questions.
Zoom Practice
During the last part of our Tuesday, February 13 staff meeting (at 4:40pm), we will be inviting parents and students to join zoom as a 15-minute practice. Be sure to have your zoom link up and ready to go on your Homeroom Canvas Site.
Hall Passes Needed
When sending kids through the hallway (either to the main office, counselor, etc..) please make sure they have a pass. It's very helpful to let us know if this is for just a short break, a small issue or a bigger problem. Then we can get students back in class much faster. Thank you!
Student-Centered Instructional Rounds
Leadership Team members will engage in Student-Centered Instructional Rounds starting February 12 through February 23. Coverage will be provided for classroom teachers on leadership to observe. When a leadership team member comes into your room, just know they are observing a particular student to gather engagement data for our SIP.
Black History Month Resources
From the math department:
One relevant way to celebrate Black History Month in your schools is by sharing the contributions of famous Black / African American Mathematicians past and present with whom students/staff may not be familiar. While we should admire the accomplishments of these incredible mathematicians any time of the year, the month of February provides a focused opportunity to gain a deeper historical context and make connections between the past, the present, and the future. Here is a slideshow of just 12 impactful mathematicians who are Black / African American. Please consider sharing those listed on this presentation and others you find beyond our list with your staff in one way or another over the course of the month of February. Thank you to our IMC, Rachel Dance, for sharing these resources!
Eureka Math Program Evaluation
Survey of staff: The purpose of the staff survey is to learn more about the experiences of instructional staff with using the Eureka Math curriculum and resources. A random sample of 30% of Pre-K–5 mathematics classroom teachers will be invited to complete the survey. Additionally, all school mathematics representatives, English Language Development (ELD) teachers, special education teachers, and central office staff who support mathematics instruction will be invited to complete a survey.
Observation of Mathematics Block: On-site observations will be conducted in a random sample of Grade 1, 3, and 5 classrooms to gather data on how the mathematics block is implemented across grade levels and different settings. The Department of Shared Accountability staff will communicate directly with the designated school mathematics representatives and teachers of classrooms selected for observations via email to schedule mutually convenient times for the visits.
**We have not yet heard about any observations here at Meadow Hall... but wanted you to know of the possibility.
