Kenwood Bulldogs Family Newsletter - February 12, 2023
From the Principal's Desk
Happy Valentine's Day, Bulldogs! Here's hoping your team emerged victorious in the Super Bowl and that all your special Valentines treat you with everything your heart desires. We do have a Valentine's treat for you on Tuesday - we invite you to don your favorite Valentine gear and join your student during their PE class for a 1-mile Fun Run!
Please note that parents will be required to show ID for check-in. We do have a procedure in place for check-out; however, as instructional leader of the school, I strongly recommend that students remain in school for the entire day. They have much to learn and every minute of every day counts.
Speaking of learning every day, we are roughly forty days away from our third and final State of Florida FAST Assessment for the year. This is the "Big One" where students are expected to show grade level proficiency. What does this mean for our students? They are expected to be able to perform at a Level 3 or higher on their respective grade level standards in Reading and Math all grades, Writing in fourth and fifth grade, and Science in fifth grade. How do they attain proficiency? By working in class every day on activities and assignments provided by their teacher. By practicing at home. By reading at home for a minimum of twenty minutes each day. And, most importantly showing what they know by doing their personal best every day, including test day.
Our students have demonstrated great strides toward proficiency from Progress Monitoring FAST 1 to Progress Monitoring FAST 2. Let's keep that trend moving upward, Top Dogs, and soar to greater heights during this Second Semester Push to Proficiency.
If you have questions about your child's progress, please contact his or her teacher.

Attending to Attendance - Checking Out During a Special Event
When Kenwood hosts a special school wide event, it is important to follow proper procedure for sign-in and check-out.
1. To ensure the safety of your child and the safety of others, please complete the provided form. Please print all the information and write legibly.
2. You will need to show this form to your child’s teacher. The teacher will release the child to you and return the form to you.
3. Bring your child and the form with you to the exit table (GREEN GATE) and present the form to the person at the table. Have your ID ready.
4. The person will review the form and sign you out.
Remember, we strongly recommend enjoying the event with your child and once it concludes, having your child remain at school to learn and practice that day's assignments. If you do choose to check out, please follow the procedure.
As always, we are here to help you!

First Annual Kenwood Random Acts of Kindness Day - Friday, February 17
Student Council is sponsoring Kenwood’s First Random Act of Kindness Day. This year’s theme is “It takes courage to be kind." Classes will participate in various activities.
- Each student will receive a green Kindness armband to wear.
- Kindness bookmarks will be given to students to decorate and leave in a book for another student to find.
- Students will be able to write a letter to a friend, teacher, or staff member to thank them for their kindness.
- Student Council members will be placing clothespins with kind words on students' backpacks to spread kindness.
- As student walk around campus on Friday they might come across some kindness rocks. If they find one, it is theirs to keep, or they can pass it on to someone that was kind to them.
Student Council hopes you find time to spread a little kindness this Friday and every day.

Student Council's Family Skate Night at Fort SK8
What a tremendous turnout at last week's Skate Night hosted by Student Council! Student Council raised $1700 to support their efforts to help Kenwood. This money goes to support purchasing additional recess equipment for classroom teachers, umbrellas for rainy day arrival and dismissal, and other special events such as Random Acts of Kindness Day.
Thank you, Student Council, for soaring to great heights to take care of Kenwood. Talk about Top Dogs!
