My favorite part of the Veteran's Day Program last Friday had to be the introduction of the veterans by our students. First, I could see what it meant to the veterans as they came into the gym and got to hear their name, branch, and service. But I'll bet if you asked the veterans, they would tell you they were honored that one of you took the time to learn a little bit about them and made them feel special on this important day. The thing that I absolutely loved was the fact that so many students got the chance to speak in front of everyone at the program. It is nerve-racking to get up in front of that many people and I think you all did awesome! I honestly didn't know some of you all had it in you and was so impressed! Thanks for helping to make this day extra-special for our veterans!

Soft-spoken Payton made the community proud by her eloquent welcome speech at the Veteran's Day Program.

Jed did a nice job introducing his veteran in front of the program on Friday.

Superintendent Darren Schroeder commissioned Tommy McNish to do a weekly focus on great things going on in our district. It is aptly named: "The Bark." Mrs. Crome recently visited Topeka West High School to volunteer for their Future Now: Finance event. She is working with Mrs. Behrens and Ms. Gartner to bring this event to our school in February. FutureNow:Finance is an exercise that helps students understand some of the “realities” involved in preparing for an employable future and adulthood. Students receive an adult scenario based on a survey they have completed prior to the event. The scenario includes: marital status, number of children, career field, and net monthly income (based on choice of career field and current GPA). They will visit a variety of booths to “purchase” housing, transportation, communication services, child care, food, utilities, insurance, etc. They will also have the opportunity to save money, give to charity and learn about unexpected things that affect daily life (e.g. accidents, unexpected visitors, flat tires). We will be reaching out to the community for volunteers soon!

The annual "Career Fair" which hadn't happened since 2019 was held Wednesday in Centralia. All Juniors from Marysville and surrounding schools got a chance to hear about job opportunities in the area and also learn about programs to further their education to pursue those jobs. It was a morning well spent!
