This learning opportunity is based on Jon Gordon’s work regarding the power of positive leadership. Participants will learn about a simple model based on seven principles leaders can put into action and enhance their practices to make a difference for students and staff.

Positive leaders invest their time and energy in driving a positive culture, creating a shared vision, leading with optimism and beliefs, transforming negativity, and moving forward with their vision for the road ahead. Leaders devote all their energy and effort to uniting and connecting their organization and invest in relationships that truly build great teams.

The culture of the organization can be influenced by the evaluation process. When evaluation experiences create more positive emotions than negative emotions people are more likely to see the bigger picture, build relationships and thrive in their work and career. The seven principles of the positive leadership model are applicable to the Iowa Standards for School Leaders. Specifically, putting the principles into practice can promote the well-being of staff and empower them to perform and improve their professional practices (Standard 6: Professional Capacity of School Personnel).
