Welcome Back!
The 2021-22 school year at GWA is underway with much excitement and enthusiasm! We welcomed our students back for Open House on Monday, August 16 and for the first day of school on Wednesday, August 18.
Our softball and volleyball teams have started their seasons and are continuing their winning traditions. Football kicks off at Social Circle this Friday at 7:30 p.m. We need a great crowd there to support them. Our cheerleaders are working hard to lead our fans as we cheer on the football team. The cross country team has trained throughout the hot summer. The GWA marching band has concluded camp and is ready for an exciting halftime show.
We eagerly anticipate a great year at GWA and look forward to celebrating the success of our students inside and outside of the classroom. Please be involved, volunteer, and enjoy all the activities at GWA. The calendar is full of great events for students and families.
Go Bulldogs!

Perfect Timing
Check out the inventive devices created by GWA AP Physics students! These summer projects were tested on the first day of school in Mrs. Watts' class. Students were tasked with making a device from household items that would accurately measure a ten-second unit of time. They used their ingenuity and problem-solving skills and practiced data collection and error measurement. After testing all the timers, each student voted for the best timer design. Congrats to the winner, junior Jack Boyer!
Mega Fun!
Teach Like a Pirate!
This past summer, our entire faculty read Dave Burgess’ Teach Like a Pirate as a way to prepare for the school year. When they got back to campus last week, the division heads threw them an engagement party as a way to use what they had learned as a springboard for student engagement.
Teachers used props to think about how to hook students into lessons, talked about how to elevate content lessons that needed a little bit more excitement, and got to work with teachers from other divisions and disciplines to reimagine their classroom experiences. We are better when we learn together!

First Day for Parents
A great Boo Hoo/ Yahoo welcome to our K3 - first-grade parents was held the first day of school. This was an opportunity for parents to meet and mingle. Parents having a tough time were reassured they will be "okay" and relationships were rekindled after summer break. We would like to thank FUMC for allowing us to gather in their fellowship hall.
Popsicles with our middle school parents was another special event sponsored by Dawgs 360. Volunteers used this occasion to pass out cool treats to our middle school students after a fun day of events. This was a great chance to meet the students, a fun way for parents to make new GWA friends and promote the student-parent bond on campus!
