Milbrook Track Record
March 2024

From the Desk Our Principal Mrs. Gorman đź‘©
Happy Spring!!
It is great to have the warmer weather coming back so students can spend recess time outside and get fresh air. Please remember to send students in closed toe shoes for gym and recess. Spring Break begins at the end of the day on March 22, 2024, and the students return on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. During that same week on Friday, April 5, 2024, students will have a half day for the end of the third quarter. In addition, Milbrook will be closed to students on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, for teacher professional learning and Friday, April 16, 2024, for the same reason. Students will be assigned virtual assignments for this day.
On April 18, 2024, Baltimore County Public Schools will celebrate nominated teachers and administrators at the Champions for Children Celebration Gala. This year, Mrs. Meghan Scherzo, Second Grade Teacher, was nominated from Milbrook Elementary School. Mrs. Scherzo started her career at Milbrook and is currently teaching second grade. She was nominated by her peers for her exceptional teaching skills and amazing connection with her students. Join me in congratulating Mrs. Scherzo on this distinguished accomplishment. I know it may seem far away, but Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6 – 10, 2024. Please consider showing your child’s teacher how much you appreciate their hard work each day. We are lucky to have such amazing teachers at Milbrook Elementary School. I know how much I appreciate their dedication to our school family.
On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the Baltimore County Board of Education approved the recommended boundary Option A. You will be receiving a letter through the US Mail, indicating what school your child will attend next year. Students who are currently in grades 3 and 4 will have the opportunity to apply for special permission, but parents must provide transportation. All details will be included in the letter that parents receive from BCPS.
The final approved interactive map, reflecting final approval boundaries will be posted soon at the following address: https://www.bcps.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=2828&pageId=70814257
Finally, starting in April, students in grades 3-5 will begin formalized state testing. Please make sure your child is well rested and is present at school each day, if they are well. We have been working very hard at improving our school overall attendance and we are currently 2% higher than this time last year and we have decreased our chronic absenteeism by almost 18%. Thank you for your commitment to consistent attendance. We can’t do this work without you!
Wishing You Well!
Sincerely,
Anne N. Gorman

A Reminder from Nurse Levy 🤕
Did you know that people with Asthma often have an increase in symptoms during the winter months? This is due to the weather being colder and the air being drier. These conditions irritate the airways and cause an increase in mucus production! It is important to be in touch with your Primary Care Provider if you find yourself using your prescribed medications more frequently.
If your child is prescribed an inhaler, or any other medications, by their provider, please be sure to have a Medication Administration form for school completed by your provider and return it to school along with an inhaler in the original box from the pharmacy.
If you have any questions please feel free to call any time,

Just In Case...
Please don't forget to send an extra change of clothes with your child to leave in their locker. Whether it's a child not making it to the bathroom on time, the weather outside, falling into puddles at recess or even spilling drinks, students often require a change of clothing. While we do have some clothing to lend, not every size, or season appropriate clothing are available. Please help us ensure your child is comfortable and dry to optimize learning!
