Valley View ISD Updates
Valley View ISD COVID-19 Updates
As of September 14, 2020 Valley View ISD has had two students test positive for Covid19. One student was never in attendance at the school and quarantined at home and participated in on-line instruction. The other student began showing symptoms 48 hours after coming in contact with staff/students and remained out of school while being tested and is currently self quarantined. We have had another eight students and four staff members that needed to quarantine due to exposure to people outside the school setting.
Thanks to everyone that has worked diligently to help keep our students and staff members safe. Thanks also to our parents and community members that have been extremely cooperative in following social distancing and mask requirements at the school and at thletic events. We have received numerous compliments from visiting spectators and officials about the approach we have taken to dealing with the Covid19 situation.
We are continuing to monitor the situation and should any changes be made in what we are currently doing those will be posted on our website and Facebook pages.
Athletic Department
The Athletic Department has seen many changes to start the 2020 / 2021 School Year. There are many new faces on the coaching staff and it starts at the top where Curtis King is the new Athletic Director. His coaching staff now consist of 6 coaches on the boy’s side and 5 on the girls side. The boys staff includes Mark Davidson, Aaron Fortenberry, Rusty Glascock, Jim Mavroulis, Ivan Martinez, and Curtis Wilcox. The Girls staff includes Girls Coordinator Teresa Tynes, Lauren Bierschenk, Jamie Renfro-Burch, Haley Dennard, Penny Green, and Fredrica Studamire. There is also a full time Trainer on staff, Hayden Terry.
There was a positive change in our off-season workout program. The 2020 summer condition program was the best in the history of Valley View athletics. There were several days where over 100 athletes attended. The most notable areas of growth in attendance from previous years was in the highschool girls attendance and by our boys middle school athletes.
Another change is that for the 2020 / 2021 and 2021/2022 School years, Valley View has moved to division 3A. Below are the districts for the Fall season sports.

The audio broadcast can be reached by going to the Valley View Athletics home page and clicking the VVBC Game Broadcast tab. The school year is off to a successful start. We appreciate how our students have responded to the adjustments in place and thank you for your support.
Please make sure that your child is logging into the WISDOM LMS at www.vvisd.net/lms (or on the Parents/Students page at www.vvvisd.net) for attendance and assignments. This needs to be done daily for students on the fully remote plan. Students on the in-person hybrid plan need to login on days they are not scheduled to be on campus. The state is still requiring all students to be present for 90% of their classes. It is very important that your child is checking their school provided email daily for communications from teachers.
The district is providing student access to Microsoft 365, which includes Word, Excel, and Power Point. Email: techsupport@vvisd.net for information on how to access Microsoft 365. This email can also be used for help with WISDOM, school provided email, or any technical issue. Please let us know if your child is having difficulty with online work due to a lack of reliable internet or technical device.
The first six-weeks will be ending on September 25 th . Students have the option after every grading period to make changes to how they attend (fully remote or in-person hybrid). Anyone wanting to make a change will need to fill out a commitment form on the district website on the COVID-19 page. The form will need to be submitted by September 23 rd . A form is not required unless a change in school attendance is being made. VVISD continues to monitor the current health situation and is evaluating plans on how to safely bring back our high school students on a daily face-to-face schedule. As of now a decision has not been made.
All students will have access to a free breakfast and lunch thanks to a waiver from the US Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Agriculture. This is scheduled to begin on September 21st and last until the end of the first semester (or until funding runs out).
Please visit www.vvisd.net for important information regarding school updates, events, procedures, athletic information/game tickets, and contact information. The VVHS Facebook page can also be accessed from the campus web page. Please call the campus office at 940-726-3522 for any questions, concerns, or assistance.

FEDERAL FUNDS AND VVISD
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is the name of the most recent federal education bill; it was passed in 2015. This act requires states and schools to give standardized tests in math and reading/writing at every grade level 3rd through 8th plus at least once in high school. Science tests are required once during the grade spans of 3-5, 6-9, and high school. This data is then used to evaluate how schools are doing in meeting the needs of all its diverse learners. Schools that do not meet certain goals are required to develop plans on how to improve in the weaker areas. If a plan to improve does not work, the repercussions become harsher and more extensive. Thus, schools are motivated to make those improvements.
In addition to those requirements, schools must also develop a Parent Engagement Policy and a Parent/Student/School compact. Both documents were developed with input from the Valley View ISD Site-Based Decision-Making committee. They are included in the handbook that parents view and sign at the beginning of each year. If you would like to read those documents, they can be found within the handbook on each school’s webpage.
So, what does a school get out of all these requirements? Schools are awarded funds based on the percentage of its students who qualify for free and/or reduced lunches. The higher the percentage of students who qualify, the more money schools receive. The census data also determines the amount of money that states and schools receive from the federal government. Thus, it because vitally important for families to not only complete the census but also to complete a free and/or reduced lunch form if a family is close to qualifying.
Schools cannot spend the money on whatever they desire. There are strict guidelines for the use of funds. Schools must consider the needs of the most at-risk students as well as making sure money does not supplant any funds the school may have received from either state or local allotments. The federal ESSA funds must supplement the funds the schools would have received without the federal funds, not take the place of those funds.
Valley View ISD applies for five programs with ESSA. These programs and the amount allotted for the 2020-2021 school year are below:
Title I, Part A: Improving Basic Programs: $117,081
Title I, Part C: Migrant Education $0
Shared Service Arrangement with ESC 11
Title II, Part A: Teacher Training and Recruiting $21,835
Title III, Part A: Limited English Proficient $12,833
Title IV: Student Support and Academic Achievement $10,000
Each spring or early summer, the Site-Based Decision-Making committee (made up of staff, parents, and community members) evaluates the needs of the district and schools and determines how to spend the money. This year, a video was made that goes through the process of evaluating the use of the funds. If you would like to view that video, it is available on the website under Departments, Special Programs, Federal Programs (https://www.vvisd.net/493009_3).
The plan that was developed is below:
Title I, Part A: Improving Basic Programs
Use funds to pay for:
Principal
MS Technology instruction
Dual language program salaries/stipends
Counselor for grades 9/10
$300 Reservation for Homeless Students’ needs
Title I, Part C: Migrant Education
Join a Shared Service Arrangement with the Education Service Center 11 to provide services to any identified students
Title II, Part A: Teacher Training and Recruiting
Consolidate funds with Title I
Title III, Part A: Limited English Proficient
Parent engagement, supplies, materials, trainings
Title IV: Student Support and Academic Enrichment
Consolidate funds with Title I
