Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) Preparedness
As we prepare students for IAR testing in March and April, there are tools to help reinforce knowledge as well as allow students to become familiar with the test format and technology tools. Conducting several short practice sessions over time has proven to be an effective technique as it requires mental recall and processing which leads to deeper learning.
The links included below are options for classroom and home practice as we prepare our students to feel comfortable with showing their mastery of grade level content.
Practice Tests
Online Student Tutorials
These tutorials will show you the variety of question types students will encounter when taking the IAR online. First, students are exposed to a question type and then they are given a content-based example for practice.
Note: Select the “practice test” option when navigating the following links. No login required.
Equation Editor Tutorials and Guides
The equation editor is a tool students will need to know how to use for the math portion of the IAR. It allows students to build equations to show solutions to test questions.
Keyboarding Skills Practice
IAR is an online assessment that includes important extended response and essay questions. It is important that students feel comfortable with computer keyboarding. Here are some options for typing practice that students might enjoy using.
Additional Online Tools
Online tools like calculators and text editing tools, as well as graphing and measuring games, can provide students with some additional practice.
