Fall Festival 2023
Fall Festival 2023
Fall Festival was a huge success with the new location a great time was had by all. It was wonderful to see the community come out to support MPV Schools. Teachers and Staff offered to get dunked in the dunk tank, booths from each school were set up and lots of good treats were floating around including a friendly Lemur! Thank you to everyone who helped and came out to make this a wonderful family filled evening!

Alice in Wonderland Performed at the MPV Auditorium
By Student Director, MHS Alumni Auburn Fields
Alice in Wonderland was presented to all schools on April 21 by the Mulberry Yellow Jacket Theatre Troupe #10586 to the Elementary school in the morning. All the kids really enjoyed watching all the characters and how there was always something new going on in the play. The crowd filled with laughter as the kids watched the actors and actresses perform. There was lots of improve between the set changes that everyone laughed at. The show ended and the auditorium filled with claps from the kids and teachers. All the actors and actresses waited outside the doors for the kids, they stood in two lines waiting for them to walk out. They all gave them hugs and high fives. The young children left with smiles on their faces talking about their play. Later on in the day the PV and high school came to watch the play. There were lots of laughs and cheering going on during the play from the crowd, not as much as the earlier show though. All enjoyed the show and talked about the play, all saying great things. On April 22 the Theatre presented the play to the community. Many showed up to the play because their children came home talking about the play. Everyone who watched the play said they loved it and how funny it was. Theater was able to make a good show due to the help of the school faculty and community. Many things were donated by the community (costumes, props, food). Other things were made by people who work at the school. Thank you to everyone who donated or helped make the theater be able to put on Alice in wonderland. Everyone from the theater thanks you. Most of all, thank you Mrs. McHaffie for sticking around with theatre. Thank you for making theater what it is, continue to build it and help it grow.
Advice from MHS Alumni Landon Carrier
Hi, my name is Landon Carrier. I have written the features in the school newspaper for the last two school years. Now that I am a senior I thought I might feature myself. It won’t be anything fancy so don’t get your hopes up. I’m 18 and will be graduating May 18th with the rest of the Senior Class of ‘23. I am not going to go on a rant of how school will be over before you know it. You’ve heard that time and time again. That statement is already engraved inside your brains. Once you get to a certain point in your school life everything becomes apparent. Your outside life is really about to start. Not your social life or your “I have a job and a truck” life. Your outside life. That is the life you start living once you realize you can’t always rely on the inside. There's a certain point like aforementioned when this is brought to awareness. Sure high school will be on the verge of ending and maybe some friendships built over the years will break. But you will get through it, you will get over it, and you will thrive. You still have time to figure out what to do with your life. Whether that be college or finding employment with a good company. Whatever you choose I will be rooting for you. Maybe not specifically but definitely as a whole. I want you to succeed. Anyways, some things I enjoy doing are bowling, writing poetry here and there, watching horror movies, and discovering new rock music. 99 percent of you guys will know me as an extrovert when it comes to social interactions. I just find acting like a goof and making people laugh easier than not saying anything. I would love to get into voice acting and making funny cartoons to also make people laugh. It is something I enjoy, entertaining people. In the end however with whatever I do, whether that be something within theatre or something with voice artistry, know this. I am 18 and heading to college with only an idea of what I want to do. Don’t stress not knowing what you want to do, just find some interests and look into those and what career fields you could get into. It’s not a race to see who can pick a major first. Take your time, and try to enjoy the time you have left here at Mulberry High School.
In the Kitchen with Hailey
Compiled by Hailey McLaughlin
First let's start with our main course. You only need a handful of ingredients to make this oven-baked chicken breast. It’s delicious and simple.
Bacon Chicken Ranch
Ingredients:
Chicken Breasts: Use skinless, boneless chicken breasts. Pound them to an even thickness, ideally about 1 inch thick.
Ranch Dressing: Use your favorite brand, or make homemade ranch dressing.
Sour Cream: This helps to make the ranch sauce extra thick and creamy.
Cheese: Grated Parmesan adds the perfect flavor and a bit of cheesiness.
Bacon Crumbles: This adds savory flavor and texture.
Instructions:
Step 1: Heat oven to 375°F and spray an 8 x 11-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
If the breasts are uneven in thickness, pound them to an even 1” thickness using a meat pounder.
Step 2: Sprinkle both sides of meat with half the grated Parmesan cheese, salt and freshly ground black pepper. Place the chicken in the prepared baking dish.
Step 3: 1-1½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, Kosher salt, Freshly grated black pepper
In a medium bowl, whisk together Ranch dressing and sour cream. Pour the mixture over the chicken breasts and sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese.
Step 4: 1½ cups Ranch dressing,½ cup sour cream,1-1½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Bake at 375°F for 20-30 minutes or until a meat thermometer inserted in the thickest part of the breast reads 150°F.
Step 5: Set the oven to broil and broil the breast for an additional 2-4 minutes or until the chicken turns golden. It will burn quickly so watch closely.
The chicken is cooked through when the thermometer reads 160°F when inserted in the thickest part of the middle breast.
Step 6: Remove from the oven and sprinkle with cooked bacon crumbles. Allow the chicken to rest a few minutes before serving.1/4 cup cooked bacon crumbles. Garnish with diced parsley, if desired. Garnish: diced fresh parsley
And enjoy!
Bonus Sweet Treat
Another simple recipe but even sweeter than the last. Get ready to have a sugar rush with this sweet treat.
INGREDIENTS for the pan:
1 package chocolate wafer cookies (we used Nabisco’s)
1/2 c. unsalted butter
1 1/2 package cream cheese
1 c. heavy cream
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
17 peanut butter cups (we used Reese's)
2 oz. Reese's Pieces
3 tbsp. granulated sugar
DIRECTIONS
Step 1: Lightly coat a 9-inch cake pan with cooking spray.
Step 2:In a food processor, pulse the chocolate wafers to form fine crumbs.(Or crumble them up yourself by hand). Add the melted butter and pulse to combine. Press the crumb mixture into the bottom and 2 inches up the sides of the pan and refrigerate until ready to use.
Step 3:Using an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the heavy cream and vanilla, mixing just to incorporate. Put on high and beat until thick and stiff, about 2 minutes.
Step 4: Arrange the peanut butter cups on the bottom of the prepared crust, breaking them to fit, as necessary, to fill any large gaps. Spread the cheesecake filling over the top of the peanut butter cups and sprinkle with Reese’s pieces. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours and up to overnight.
And enjoy!
Fun Fall Craft
Crafters Corner
By Kristen Peters
Supplies:
-Paperback book
-Paper and pencil
–Sharp scissors or exacto knife
–Hot glue gun and glue
–Spray Paint
-Stick for stem
-Scrap of ribbon or fabric
Instructions:
1- Make a pumpkin shape out of a piece of paper. Then folded the paper in half and cut it so it would be symmetrical.
2- Take the cover off of your book and place the pumpkin pattern with the fold on the binding edge. If it doesn’t fit, trim it a little.
3-Trace around the pattern with a pencil.
4-Now it’s time to cut out your pumpkin.
5-After you cut all the way around, pull the excess pages over to the binding and they should tear right off.
6-Now trace around the pumpkin shape and cut through a few more pages. Tip: cut slightly inside the pencil mark, or your pumpkin will keep getting bigger.
8-Now put a thin strip of glue on the very edge. I’m the impatient type, so I used hot glue.
9-Now bring that back page around and attach it to the hot glue, keeping the outside edges as even as possible. Then add a stip of hot glue to that page, and glue the next page to it, just on the inside edges.
10- Just go around pulling the pages apart and arranging them how you want them.
11- Now it’s time to add the stem. Find a stick and use a bunch of hot glue to glue it down.

A Senior Reflection
By Emily Robinson
Hello all who is reading this. My name is Emily Robinson, I am pretty sure I have been involved with Mulberry for most of my formative years. I will never forget the excitement I felt when I first started school here at the ripe old age of 5. As a Mulberry High School graduate I have been a part of clubs like FBLA, BETA, EAST, Theatre, and Journalism. I got do track and field as well as softball. This year our softball team made it to state and I could not be more proud. I am proud to say that I am a Yellow Jacket. The bonds I have made at Mulberry High School are so special to me, there is not one person I will not remember. I plan to attend ATU to receive an associates degree in cosmetic science as well as my licensing in cosmetology. After I graduate college I want to work as a full time cosmetologist and eventually teach classes. Mulberry has taught me that kindness goes a long way, and I am thankful for all the teachers and friends that have helped me in my success. Thank you and the best wishes for whomever is reading this.
