Career Awareness in Spring
What a rewarding year it has been in fostering career awareness! We've had the pleasure of introducing students to various career clusters and highlighting the diverse array of jobs awaiting them. Our hands-on activities provided an immersive experience, allowing students to engage with numerous career options firsthand.
Throughout April and May, we focused on Business Management and Administration, as well as Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security careers. Students enthusiastically participated in six activities to learn more about these fields.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the teachers, principals, and counselors for graciously welcoming us into their classrooms. It's truly fulfilling to ignite curiosity about different career paths in such an enjoyable and interactive manner. Thank you once again, and may you all have a relaxing and pleasant summer ahead!

Mrs. May's Career Connections 7th & 8th Graders
As we near the end of the school year, Mrs. May's Career Connections Class has been actively exploring the dynamic fields of Construction Technologies and STEM career pathways. These sectors offer a wide range of opportunities for students interested in innovative and impactful careers. Our class has delved into the practical and theoretical aspects of these fields, providing students with valuable insights into potential career options.
In our construction technologies segment, students have learned about various trades and professions within the industry, including carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and project management. We've explored the latest advancements in construction methods and materials, emphasizing sustainability and efficiency. Hands-on projects allowed students to apply their knowledge, giving them a taste of what it’s like to work in this ever-evolving field.
The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) portion of our curriculum has been equally engaging. Students have been introduced to careers in engineering, computer science, biotechnology, and environmental science, among others. Through interactive experiments, coding challenges, and guest lectures from professionals, our class has gained a deeper understanding of the critical role STEM careers play in shaping our future.
A highlight of our recent activities was the field trip to the JA Inspire Career Expo. This event was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect with a wide variety of industries and professionals. At the expo, students participated in hands-on exhibits, interactive workshops, and networked with potential employers. The experience was invaluable in helping students identify their interests and learn more about the educational pathways that lead to their desired careers.
As we conclude this school year, our students are better equipped with the knowledge and experiences necessary to make informed decisions about their future careers. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing the exciting paths they will take in the world of construction technologies and STEM.
MEMBER SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT! NORTHWOOD, LAKE, and NORTH BALTIMORE
Northwood High School
At Northwood High School, we are dedicated to helping our students explore and prepare for their future careers. This year, we are emphasizing career pathways through valuable partnerships with the Wood County Job and Family Services (JFS) and Ohio Means Jobs. Our seniors will gain firsthand knowledge about local employers during our visit to the Wood County Career Premiere, aiding them in finding careers that align with their goals.
Looking ahead to the 2024-2025 school year, we are excited to expand our course offerings in the Business and Family Consumer Sciences departments. High school students will have the opportunity to take business courses that offer dual enrollment with Owens Community College, exposing them to a variety of career pathways within the business sector. Our new Family and Consumer Science courses will cover essential life skills, including cooking, human development, and design. These courses aim to provide our students with a broad understanding of potential career paths, ensuring they are well-prepared to make informed decisions about their futures.
Lake High School
Lake High School is committed to supporting our students' career readiness from an early stage. We utilize the YouScience assessment in 9th and 10th grades and offer additional assessments through our Student Success Center. Collaborating with JA Inspire and Wood County Ohio Means Jobs, our students participate in career fairs and other career exploration activities. Although we hold a career fair every other year (not this year), we continuously provide career exploration opportunities by inviting colleges, armed forces, and career representatives to engage with students during our ICE period and cafeteria setups.
Additionally, our students complete the 16 Personalities assessment to enhance career readiness. We offer a college prep class for juniors and seniors, focusing on career research and preparation. Our on-campus Career-Based Intervention (CBI) program and the RISE UP credential course further support our students in achieving their career goals.
North Baltimore High School
At North Baltimore High School, we are implementing a comprehensive and dynamic approach to career exploration to equip our students with the necessary tools for future planning. Our multifaceted program includes job shadowing with reflective components, career aptitude tests, and an exploration of the college versus trade school paths. Students develop practical skills through resume and cover letter workshops and gain insights from panel discussions with professionals across various fields.
Additionally, we offer targeted college classes focused on career exploration, ensuring our students receive a well-rounded perspective on potential career paths. This holistic approach ensures that North Baltimore High School students are well-prepared and confident in making informed decisions about their future careers.
