A Message about STAAR
The STAAR testing season is upon us, and this can be a stressful time for students. We try our hardest not to put pressure on the kids when it comes to taking these tests; we know that the work we've done all year has adequately prepared them for success. One test is not typically the best measure of a child's growth nor of their learning. Please know that our goal is to provide your kids with a learning environment that addresses academic needs but also helps them blossom socially and emotionally. Some kids are not bothered by taking a test, but for others, it stirs up feelings of anxiety or nervousness. We hope that the message we've sent in each classroom this year is that a child's best effort is good enough, regardless of outcome.
Please help us by encouraging your children to come on STAAR testing days with positive thoughts - "I can do this!" "I may not know all the answers, but I can try my best!" "This test does not define who I am!". It's important to have a growth mindset, especially when up against tests that can be difficult or stressful. We measure student growth in so many countless ways ... and a test is just a test; it's one measure of many. We're proud of our Mariners and the hard work and growth we see daily!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Brittain
Book Fair News
It is time to start thinking about our Spring Book Fair! This week your student brought home information about Scholastic’s All for Books program. You can participate in this program by donating funds to help put books in all our student’s hands. This is a great opportunity to show your student how to help others. There is a competition for the most money collected and the most participation from a grade level. If you have any questions about this program, please feel free to email Mrs. Grizzle (april.nationgrizzle@pisd.edu).
Also, in the coming week, be looking for information about the Book Fair. Your student will be bringing home a flyer as well as an information sheet about volunteering, preview times, and shopping times. We will be open during the Spring Fling this year, so be sure and stop by to pick up some summer reading materials.
We look forward to seeing you at our Dino-Mite Book Fair this spring!

Survey for Parents of Special Education Students
Valued parents of students with disabilities, the PISD Special Education program is exploring ways to increase communication, training, and involvement opportunities for families of students with disabilities, and we need your input. We know that you are very busy working and taking care of your family, but we encourage you to give us your voice by answering the thirteen (13) questions in this survey. We value parent input and want to know how the special education program is doing towards meeting you and your child's needs. Please click the link below that corresponds to your language of preference and complete the survey by Friday, April 26th.
