Lubbock-Cooper Central Elementary
August 18, 2023
From Mr. Cox
To our incredible community and staff that make up Lubbock - Cooper Central Elementary with the goal of growing and supporting our Central students - thank you. This first week was phenomenal. We have 903 students and in the past three days they have already made some connections, some progress, and some wonderful memories.
We have 250+ families brand new to our campus. We are glad to have you and can't wait for you to really get into the groove of all that Central Elementary is.
The goals of our first week of school are as follows:
1 - Ensure all students are safe.
2 - Ensure all students that come to our building make it home safe each day.
3 - Observe the flow of all our campus transitions and make adjustments as needed.
We were successful in all three goals this week, and as we move forward we will make the required adjustments to meet the needs of our largest student population to date! I encourage any and all parents to share the perspective you have to help us improve as a school, and I ask that you keep in mind that our school is larger than the size of some towns in the state of Texas!
This first week we intentionally dismissed a little early to allow for buses and new families to get to know our new flow. Starting Monday, our entire dismissal process will begin at 3:20 and (should) be completely finished by 3:45pm every day. When I think of dismissal, my top priority is safety. I'll be the first to tell you there are some things we could change about dismissal to make it even faster, but it would sacrifice safety, and I'm not willing to do that in regards to our kiddos.
Looking ahead I ask that all of our community help with the following:
- Communicate as early as you can and as quick as you can if you are changing your dismissal plan.
- Make sure you have your car tag on your rear view mirror if picking up with car rider pro.
- Phones down and eyes up. Our population of bike riders and walkers grows as our neighborhood grows. Please drive extra slowly and cautiously during arrival and dismissal each day.
Thank you all so much for a wonderful first week and a tremendous year ahead!
- Mr. Cox.
