Foodball has kicked off! Ends November 7
The Grizzlies and Bobcats are excited to announce a joint effort for this year’s Foodball drive. Students from both schools have teamed up, and will be announcing a combined fundraising total on Monday, November 7th. Food banks in each town will be supported from this grand total. We are excited to combine our efforts, and to continue the 42 years of Foodball tradition in our community.
Each school will be sponsoring events throughout the week- both separately and together. We hope you will attend many of these events and support our students and our community. The calendar of events is on the back of this letter.

Athletics: Season 1 Ends. Girls Basketball and Wrestling up and Running!
Thank you to all of our Football, Girls Soccer, and Cross Country athletes. Their seasons concluded at the end of October. Season 2 has begun! We have almost 80 students out for these two sports so far! The Cubs will begin their games and matches the week of November 7-11. Game schedules are up on Arbiter Live https://www.arbiterlive.com/Teams?entityId=33572 . We will try to get our sport schedules out (we are still awaiting schools to enter their matches for Wrestling) the first week of November. Be looking on Facebook, our web page and email!

The Wizard of E-Sports visits HMS
Mr. Nitti came to HMS to demonstrate a VR game that students will play in E-Sports. HMS students are one of the first groups of middle school students to be able to compete in E-Sports in the nation!

After School Program Information
After School Program (ASP) at Hoquiam Middle School will be starting on Monday, November 7th at 3:00 pm in the Middle School Library. It will run until 5:00 pm and is open to all Middle School Students. After School Program for HMS is under the direction of Shawn Larsen. Several activities are being planned, but the activities planned will give students a chance to express themselves and give more students a chance to be involved in student created clubs. The format for each day will be:
- 3:00-4:00 will be Study Table and homework help. Tutors are being recruited.
- 4:00-5:00 Activity and Club time.
Congratulations to our October Spotlight Students!
HMS recognizes some of our outstanding citizens for October. We want to take a moment to spotlight students who were recognized by their teachers for displaying good citizenship traits above and beyond the call.
October Rotary Students of the Month:
- August Bishop-Parents Shannon and Adam Bishop. August was selected due to an amazing work ethic and helpful attitude. History is August's favorite class, and plans to compete in swimming and turning out for cheerleading this year. August enjoys swimming, painting and hanging out with family. August is looking forward to the academic challenge and competing in swimming when she goes to the High School next year!
- Anthony Sanchez-Soriano-Parents Jesus Sanchez and Rayna Soriano. Anthony is an academically driven student who displays great citizenship. His favorite class is AVID. He is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, and will compete in Soccer and Track for HMS. Anthony loves reading, sports, and spending time with his friends. He is proud of his academic achievements, and he can't wait to go to high school where he is looking forward to AVID and the variety of sports and clubs there.
