November 22, 2015
Dear Friends,
As Thanksgiving draws near, I am reminded of a Jon Gordon newsletter I read a few years ago entitled, The Power of Thank You. It is accessible on the button below. I continue to be awed by the actions I see staff take on a daily basis to make a positive impact in the lives of our students. What a blessing to see students smiling, laughing, and rising to the challenges set in each classroom! Thank YOU for helping each child realize how special s/he is through your words and actions.
This is Kim Chambless' last week at Morrish. She does not want a goodbye party, but I have to let everyone know what I witnessed on Friday afternoon - one small example of Kim's character. A little girl was not picked up on time at the end of the day. Kim stayed for about 30 minutes to read a book to this child so she would not be scared and would feel comfortable as she waited for her ride home. This is one small example of how Kim worked with our students on a day-to-day basis. We wish her well and will miss her!

Announcements & Reminders...
Mentor Program
Our Morrish PAL (Peer Assisted Leadership) mentor program is back! The primary intervention that this mentoring provides is the relationship itself. The other activities that our matches engage in only matter within the context of the relationship they are forming. We have about 25 high school students who have applied to be mentors for our students. Sharon Veenhuis and I are conducting interviews of these applicants in a few weeks and will set up matches after these interviews. Our goal is for the program to begin after winter break. TEACHERS: Please nominate student(s) who would benefit from having a high school mentor on THIS LINK.
PowerParent
A letter explaining the new Parent Portal with their student’s ID number and the tip sheet will be sent home to parents next week. This will be followed with an informational call from Angie Z. If you need help learning how to use Power Parent more than just entering report card grades, please reach out. We have teachers in our building who can support one another. The video (above) will also be posted on our Morrish social media accounts to help parents.
Bright Smiles
BrightSmiles is a Non Profit community outreach program. BrightSmiles is licensed through the Michigan Department of Community Health. They will be in our building on Tuesday, December 8th to provide an Oral Assessment, Fluoride and Sealants. Children who return permission slip forms will be out of classrooms for about 20-30 minutes for treatment.
Happy Thanksgiving & enjoy the extended weekend!
