Introducing Accessible Library Services
The South Dakota Braille and Talking Book Library has undergone a name change: We are now known as South Dakota Accessible Library Services! The library manager, Kate Kosior, explains: “We hope that this will allow us to expand understanding with all South Dakotans that they may be eligible for our services although they are not visually impaired, and that we offer many more services than simply books.”
South Dakota Accessible Library Services provides access to information for South Dakotans who face barriers to traditional print. This includes people with visual impairments, physical impairments (which may make holding or manipulating a book difficult), and learning disabilities. The library provides books in both audio and Braille, educational materials for children in schools who require adaptive textbooks, audio described DVD’s, summer and winter themed programming for adults and children NFB NEWSLINE access that allows users to get their news over the telephone, and quarterly virtual programming including author events, writing workshops, podcast tapings, and more via Zoom.
For more information, please contact the library at our website at https://library.sd.gov/btb/ or 605-773-5081.
